The Studio

We Design the Places People Remember

A great hospitality space is never just a beautiful room — it is an experience engineered to be felt, and designing that experience is the whole craft of Marisol & Vega. For sixteen years, from our studio in the Miami Design District, we have designed the boutique hotels, restaurants, resorts, and clubs that become destinations, and we approach every one as a piece of storytelling built in architecture. Hospitality design is different from any other kind. It has to work on two levels at once: it has to move guests emotionally — the drama of arrival, the quality of the light at golden hour, the sightline that makes a room feel glamorous and alive, the sequence of spaces that makes someone feel they have arrived somewhere special — and it has to perform relentlessly for the business behind it, with flow, capacity, back-of-house, and operations designed as carefully as the beauty. We design for both, always. We understand the Miami market intimately — its light, its indoor-outdoor life, its climate, and the way a distinctive space here can become a destination that fills itself through press and word of mouth. We design the whole guest journey, from the street to the last detail, and we shape it so it photographs irresistibly and operates effortlessly. And we carry an owner's mind throughout, because a hospitality space only succeeds if it earns its rate, fills its tables, and makes money for the people who built it. The result is architecture that guests remember, return to, and tell their friends about — and that owners are glad they invested in. Designing the places that become part of people's best nights and best trips is the entire reason our studio exists.

Why It Matters

In Hospitality, the Design Is the Business

In most buildings, architecture is a backdrop to what happens inside. In hospitality, the architecture is the product. A hotel, a restaurant, a resort — these are businesses whose success is inseparable from the way their spaces make people feel, and that is why treating the design as a line item to be minimized is the most expensive mistake an owner can make. The properties that thrive are not the ones that spent the least to build a functional box; they are the ones whose spaces became a reason to visit. A restaurant room so alluring that a table there is an event. A hotel whose lobby and pool became a destination that fills the rooms above them. A spa so transporting that guests pay the premium and write about it afterward. That kind of pull cannot be bought in furniture or added in marketing later — it has to be designed into the bones of the place, in the plan, the light, the flow, and the thousand considered details that guests feel without ever naming. Done well, hospitality architecture is the highest-leverage investment a property can make: it drives rate, occupancy, covers, press, and the word of mouth that no ad budget can replace, and it does it every day for the life of the building. Designing that pull — the beauty that also performs — is exactly what our studio does, and it is the difference between a space guests tolerate and one they can't stop talking about.

Marisol & Vega designed our boutique hotel in South Beach, and it is the reason the property works. They understood that hospitality architecture is about the guest's whole journey — the arrival, the light, the flow from lobby to bar to room, the moments that make people take out their phones — and they designed every one of them beautifully. The building is unmistakably Miami, distinctive enough to become a destination, and it operates flawlessly for our staff. Bookings and press followed the design. They are true hospitality architects, and we are already planning our next property with them.

We opened our restaurant in the Design District with Marisol & Vega, and the space is the star of the concept. They designed a room that feels alive at every hour — golden and inviting at dinner, effortless at lunch — with a bar people want to sit at and sightlines that make it feel full and glamorous even on a quiet night. Every detail, from the lighting to the banquettes to the kitchen flow, was considered for both guests and operations. The design has been photographed endlessly and become part of our brand. We could not have asked for better hospitality architects.

Marisol & Vega designed the spa and pool experience for our resort, and the result is transporting. They created a sequence of spaces that make guests feel they have arrived somewhere truly special the moment they enter — water, light, shade, and material working together in a way that feels both serene and distinctly of Miami. It photographs beautifully, it earns the rate, and guests write about it in their reviews. Their command of hospitality design, indoor-outdoor flow, and the South Florida climate is exceptional. A brilliant, imaginative studio that delivers on every promise.

Good Questions

Working With a Hospitality Architect, Answered

Why hire a hospitality specialist instead of a general architect?

Because hospitality design is a genuinely distinct discipline, and the stakes are unusually high. A hotel, restaurant, or resort has to do something a house or an office never does: it has to move guests emotionally while performing relentlessly as a business — driving rate, covers, press, and repeat visits. That requires designing the whole guest journey, understanding operations and back-of-house as well as beauty, and knowing how a distinctive space becomes a destination in a specific market. A talented generalist rarely has that dual fluency, and in hospitality the cost of getting it wrong is measured in every night the property underperforms. Sixteen years devoted to hospitality in Miami is exactly the specialized experience these projects demand, and it's what we bring to every one.

Do you design the interiors too, or just the architecture?

Both, together — and in hospitality that integration is essential. The guest doesn't experience 'the architecture' and 'the interiors' as separate things; they experience one seamless space, and it only feels effortless when the two are designed hand-in-hand from the start. We design the architecture and the interiors as a single vision — the plan and the light alongside the banquettes, the bar, the materials, and the fixtures — so everything reinforces the same story and nothing feels bolted on. For owners this also means one accountable team for the thing that matters most: the finished guest experience. We're glad to collaborate with a brand or an operator's standards, but the space itself we design whole.

Can good design really drive bookings and revenue?

In hospitality, more than almost anywhere else — it's the core of what we do. The properties that outperform are consistently the ones whose spaces became a reason to visit: a restaurant room so alluring a table there is an event, a hotel pool that becomes a destination and fills the rooms above it, a spa so transporting guests pay the premium and write about it. That pull drives rate, occupancy, covers, and the press and word of mouth that no ad budget can replace, and it does it every day for the life of the building. It cannot be added later in marketing or furniture — it has to be designed into the bones of the place. Designing exactly that kind of pull, the beauty that also performs, is the whole point of hiring us.

Do you understand the Miami market and climate specifically?

Deeply — it's our home ground and a real part of our value. Miami hospitality has its own language: the quality of the light, the indoor-outdoor way of life, the heat and humidity and hurricane realities, the design-forward audience, and the way a distinctive space here can become a destination that fills itself through press and social. We design for all of it — shade, water, breeze, and planting woven into the plan; materials and detailing that hold up in the climate; and a sensibility that feels unmistakably of this place. Our relationships with the city's permitting, consultants, and hospitality trades are part of what makes our projects run smoothly. For a property just outside South Florida, we're glad to talk.

How are fees structured for a hospitality project?

Hospitality architecture fees are typically a percentage of construction cost or a negotiated fee based on the scope and complexity of the project, and after an initial conversation about your concept and site we provide a clear, transparent framework. Hospitality involves more design intensity — the guest journey, the interiors, the operational detail — than most building types, and the value it drives, a property that outperforms for the life of the building, is significant, so we're glad to frame the investment against the returns it creates. We're candid about numbers from the first meeting. Great hospitality design is never the cheapest path, but on a property whose success depends on how it makes people feel, it is the most important investment you'll make.

What kinds of projects do you take on?

We design across hospitality — boutique hotels and resorts, restaurants and bars, spas and wellness, members' clubs and lounges, and the interiors that go with them — from ground-up buildings to the transformation of an existing space, and from a single restaurant to a full resort. What our projects share is an owner who understands that in hospitality the space is the product and wants it to become a destination. Our studio is in the Miami Design District and we work throughout Miami and South Florida, with the market knowledge and relationships that make projects here run well. If you're imagining a hospitality space you want guests to remember, we'd love to hear about it — the first conversation is where every destination begins.
