Local Washer & Dryer Repair in Madison, WI

Two technicians who repair laundry machines and nothing else. Belts, pumps, door locks and heating elements ride on our vans, so most repairs are done on the first visit.

Start With What It's Doing

Tell Us the Symptom. We'll Know Where to Look.

Eight problems make up most of our calls. Each one has a short list of usual causes, which is why we can bring the right part the first time.

Won't Drain

Water left in the drum after the cycle usually means a blocked pump filter, a kinked drain hose or a pump that has failed.

Won't Spin

A worn drive belt, a lid switch or door lock that no longer reads closed, or a motor control board.

Leaking on the Floor

The door boot on a front-loader, a hose clamp that has worked loose, a cracked tub or a fill valve that won't shut.

Runs, but No Heat

A heating element, a blown thermal fuse, a gas igniter or valve coil, or a vent so clogged the dryer protects itself.

Two Cycles to Dry

Almost always airflow. Lint in the vent run or a duct crushed behind the dryer slows every load.

Thumping or Squealing

Worn drum rollers, an idler pulley, tired shock absorbers or a drum bearing on its way out.

Error Code on the Display

Most codes point to a drain, door lock or water-level fault. Tell us the code when you book and we bring the likely part.

Door Won't Unlock

A front-loader keeps its door locked while water is inside. A stuck lock is usually the latch assembly or a drain fault behind it.

A Dryer That Won't Heat Is Often an Airflow Problem

When a dryer needs two or three cycles, the heating element usually gets the blame. Just as often the cause is lint packed into the vent, which makes the dryer run hot and trip its own safety fuse.

On every dryer call we check the airflow at the back of the machine before we order a part. If the vent run through the wall needs a full cleaning, we say so and point you to a duct cleaner.

  • ✓Airflow checked on every dryer call
  • ✓Thermal fuses and elements tested, not guessed
  • ✓Gas igniters and valve coils replaced
  • ✓Lint cleared from the dryer end of the vent

Water on the Floor Has a Short List of Causes

Turn off the two valves behind the washer, then call us. Most leaks come from the door boot on a front-loader, a hose clamp that has worked loose, or a fill valve that no longer closes all the way.

We carry hoses, clamps, boots and valves for the common models, so the fix usually happens the same visit.

  • ✓Door boot seals replaced on front-loaders
  • ✓Drain pumps and filters cleared or swapped
  • ✓Fill valves and inlet hoses replaced
  • ✓Braided steel hoses fitted on request

What Customers Say After the First Load

★★★★★
Our front-loader stopped mid-cycle with a drum full of water and towels. The technician pulled the pump filter, found a sock and a hair tie, replaced the pump that had cooked itself trying, and ran a rinse cycle with me before he left.

★★★★★
Two other companies told us to replace the dryer. Tumblewell found lint packed into the duct behind it, cleared it, replaced the thermal fuse and showed us how to check the vent ourselves.
Abdi H.Electric dryer, Fitchburg
★★★★★
Stacked unit in a hallway closet with about two inches to spare. They had it out, fixed and back in without a scratch on the door frame.

Four Habits That Keep a Washer and Dryer Going

1

Clean the lint screen every load

A clear screen keeps air moving, shortens drying time and takes strain off the heating element.

2

Leave the washer door open

Letting a front-loader's door and gasket dry between loads stops the musty smell. Keep the room closed off from small children and pets while it airs.

3

Use less HE detergent

Too many suds confuse the sensors and leave residue in the pump. Most loads need far less than the cap line.

4

Don't pack the drum

Overloading wears out bearings, shock absorbers and drum rollers years early.

Questions

Washer and Dryer Repair Questions

Do you repair refrigerators or ovens?

No. We only repair washers and dryers. If you need a refrigerator or oven technician, ask and we will suggest one we trust.

What does a service call cost?

Our service call is $79, and it comes off the repair if you go ahead. You get the repair price before any work starts.

Is my washer worth repairing?

If it is under about ten years old and the drum and tub are sound, a repair usually costs far less than a new machine. If it isn't worth it, we will tell you.

Do you work on gas dryers?

Yes. We replace igniters, valve coils and thermal fuses on gas dryers and check every connection for leaks before we leave.

Can you reach a stacked unit in a closet?

Yes. We bring a dolly and floor protection and plan the move before we start, so the door frame and floor stay as they were.

Which areas do you cover?

Madison plus Middleton, Fitchburg, Monona, Sun Prairie, Verona and Shorewood Hills.
