Our Story

One Roll, Taken Way Too Seriously

Roll Call started with a simple, deranged goal: to make the best cinnamon roll in Kansas City, and to make it enormous. Four years in the Crossroads later, we've achieved both, and we regret nothing.

We make a laminated, brioche-style dough, proof it slow, load it with a genuinely irresponsible amount of cinnamon-sugar, and bake it in small batches so the middle stays molten and the edges caramelize into something crackly and glorious. Everything is made fresh each morning and sold until it's gone — which, most days, is by noon. It's a lot of pre-dawn work for one glorified breakfast pastry, and it is, objectively, the best decision we ever made. Set an alarm.

Why Ours Hit Different

It's Just Done Properly

There's no secret. Just good dough, real butter, and a refusal to make a small, sad roll.

Genuinely Giant

Half a pound minimum, no apologies. Our rolls are a commitment, a shared plate, and a small personal achievement to finish.

Gooey in the Middle

Small batches and a careful bake keep the center molten and the edges crackly-caramelized. That contrast is the whole point.

Real Butter & Cinnamon

Actual butter, actual Vietnamese cinnamon, and an amount of both that would alarm a doctor. Flavor, not shortcuts.

Baked Fresh Daily

Everything is made the morning you buy it — often still warm. When the batch is gone, it's gone. That's the deal.

Made With Zero Chill

We are unreasonably serious about a breakfast pastry, and you can taste every ounce of that unhinged dedication.

A KC Obsession

Four years, a line down Southwest Blvd, and a city that plans its weekends around us. We are deeply grateful and slightly smug.

The Method

How the Gooey Happens

Four steps between flour and the best part of your weekend.

Laminate the Dough

We make a rich, brioche-style dough and laminate in butter — the fold that makes our rolls soft, layered, and pull-apart tender.

Load the Cinnamon

A thick, generous layer of butter, brown sugar, and real cinnamon — the filling that goes molten and gooey in the bake.

Proof & Bake Small

We proof slow and bake in small batches so the middle stays soft and molten while the edges caramelize and crackle.

Glaze While Warm

Icing, cream cheese, or caramel goes on warm so it melts into every crevice — then out the door before it can cool.

Gooey Praise

Kansas City Sets an Alarm

Roll Call makes the best cinnamon roll I've had in my entire life, and I have made cinnamon rolls my entire life's work to evaluate. Giant, gooey in the middle, that crackly caramelized edge — the caramel pecan is a spiritual experience. I set an alarm on Saturdays. This is not a drill.

We drove ninety minutes for these on a rumor and it was completely worth it. Still warm, absurdly gooey, the size of a small planet. My kids now think this is a normal weekend activity and honestly, same. Roll Call has ruined every gas-station cinnamon roll forever.
Marcus T.Regular, Brookside
I ordered a box of a dozen for the office and became an instant legend. Beautifully packed, every roll perfect, and the biscoff one caused an actual stampede. Roll Call makes me look like the most generous coworker alive with zero effort. My secret weapon. Everybody asks.
Priya S.Box Order, River Market
The seasonal specials are dangerous — pumpkin in fall, gingerbread in December — and the cream cheese classic is a perfect ten every single time. A warm roll and a cold brew in the Crossroads is my whole weekend personality. Get there early or get nothing. I mean it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you really sell out most days?

We do — often by noon, and sometimes within a couple of hours on weekends. We only make what we can bake properly in small batches, and a cinnamon roll is best warm and fresh, so we'd rather sell out than sell something past its peak. Ordering ahead is the only way to be sure.

How do I order a box ahead?

Call or use our order form with your rolls, count, and pickup day. A day's notice covers most boxes; give us more for big or catering orders. We'll have it baked fresh and packed warm for a quick grab — no line, no sellout heartbreak. It's the move every regular makes.

Are the rolls really that big?

Half a pound minimum, and proudly so. Our rolls are meant to be a commitment — a shared plate, a two-hander, a small personal achievement. If you finish a caramel pecan solo, we salute you. Most people split one, then immediately regret not getting two.

Do you cater events?

We love it — boxes and breakfast spreads for offices, parties, showers, and events across Kansas City, all baked fresh the morning of and packed warm. Add coffee and cold brew by the box. Send your headcount and date and we'll make you the hero of the room. Order ahead, as we fill up.

Do you have gluten-free or vegan rolls?

We keep a rotating vegan option and can sometimes do gluten-friendly with notice — just ask. As a butter-and-flour shop we can't promise an allergen-free kitchen, but we're always honest about what we can safely make for you that day.

Where are you, and when should I come?

We're on Southwest Blvd in the Crossroads. We open at 8am with the fullest case, and we bake until we sell out — most days by noon. Earlier is better, and ordering ahead guarantees your rolls. Follow the smell of cinnamon; it gives us away for blocks.
