Three Generations on Hanover Street
Forno Vecchio opened in 1984, and the recipes are older than that — brought over, written on index cards, and guarded like heirlooms. Three generations later, we're still on the same corner of Hanover Street, still filling cannoli to order, still arguing about the ricotta.
Nothing here comes from a factory. We bake our bread before dawn, pipe our shells fresh so they stay crisp, and make our fillings the way nonna did — no shortcuts she'd disapprove of. The North End has changed a lot in forty years. What comes out of our oven hasn't, and that's exactly the point. Come in and you're family.

What's in the Case
The old-country lineup, made fresh every day — plus a rotating special when the season calls for it.
Mangia With Your Eyes First
Do not scroll this hungry. The North End is not responsible.

Forty Years, Zero Shortcuts
The North End has a lot of bakeries. Here's why four generations of families keep coming to ours.
Filled to Order
We never pre-fill our cannoli — the shell goes soft the minute you do. Yours is piped fresh at the counter, always crisp.
Baked Before Dawn
Bread and pastry go in the oven before the sun's up, so the case is fresh and warm the moment we open the door.
Old-Country Recipes
The same recipes we opened with in 1984, brought from the old country and never 'improved' by a food scientist.
Three Generations
A real family bakery — the same family, the same corner, the same standards, passed down and held to.
Treated Like Famiglia
Come in once and we'll remember you. This is a neighborhood bakery in the truest sense, and you're welcome in it.
A North End Institution
Four decades, thousands of trays, and a line down Hanover on a Sunday. We've earned this corner, one cannoli at a time.
The Rules Nonna Left Us
Four things that have never changed, and never will.
Never Pre-Fill
A cannoli is filled the moment it's ordered. A soft shell is a sin in this family, and we do not commit sins.
Real Ricotta
We make and source proper ricotta, sweetened by hand. No stabilizers, no shortcuts, no 'cream cheese filling.' Ever.
Bake It Fresh
Everything is made the day you buy it. When the tray's empty, it's empty — come back tomorrow, it'll be warm again.
Feed People Like Family
The oldest recipe of all. Everyone who walks in leaves fed, welcomed, and a little more Italian than when they came.

The Sweet Table for Every Occasion
In the North End, you don't throw a party without a pastry tray, and you don't get the pastry tray anywhere but your family bakery. We build cannoli trays, cookie trays, and full dessert spreads for weddings, communions, holidays, and every Sunday that deserves one.
Everything is baked fresh for your date, filled the morning of, and arranged the way it should be — generous and beautiful. Whether it's two dozen cannoli for the office or a whole sweet table for a wedding, tell us the occasion and the count and we'll take care of the rest. Order ahead, especially around the holidays — the North End keeps us busy.

The North End Speaks
Forno Vecchio has the best cannoli in the North End and I'll say it to anyone's face. Filled to order so the shell actually stays crisp, ricotta sweetened just right, a little chocolate on the ends. My nonna approved, and she approved of nothing. Forty years earned.
The sfogliatelle here is the real thing — those shattering ribbon layers, the orange-scented ricotta inside, warm from the case. I grew up on Hanover Street and this is the taste of home. Nothing has changed in the best possible way. A Boston treasure.
We order trays for every family gathering — cannoli, cookies, a ricotta pie — and it's always perfect and always disappears. Four generations of my family have bought bread here. They treat you like famiglia the second you walk in. This place is Boston.
Your Cannoli Is Waiting
Stop in for a fresh-filled cannoli and an espresso, or order a tray ahead so the sweet table takes care of itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you fill cannoli to order?
Always — it's the whole point. We never pre-fill, because a filled cannoli shell goes soft within the hour. Yours is piped fresh at the counter so the shell stays crisp and the ricotta is perfect. For trays, we fill them the morning of pickup so they're at their best.
Can I order trays for a party?
Absolutely — it's a North End tradition and one of our favorite things to do. Cannoli trays, cookie trays, and full sweet tables for weddings, communions, holidays, and gatherings of any size. Give us a day or two's notice for most orders, and more around the holidays.
What time do you open and sell out?
We open at 7am with the fullest case and bake through the day, so there's usually something fresh. Weekends and holidays get busy and popular items can go, so morning is best — and ordering ahead guarantees you get exactly what you came for.
Do you have gluten-free or vegan options?
We keep a small rotating selection of options and can sometimes make something to order with notice, though as a flour-and-ricotta bakery we can't promise an allergen-free kitchen. Call ahead and we'll tell you honestly what's available that day and take care of you.
Do you ship, or is it pickup only?
Our fresh pastries and filled cannoli are pickup only — they're meant to be eaten the day they're made, and shipping a filled cannoli would break our hearts. Biscotti and some cookies travel well; ask us at the counter and we'll let you know what's shippable.
Where are you, and how's parking?
We're on Hanover Street in the heart of the North End. Parking is street-only and it's Boston, so honestly, walk or take the T if you can — and follow your nose the last block. We'll be glad to see you, and there's always coffee on.
