Why Halcombe

Trained for the Chair, Not the Test

Anyone can hand you a manual. We put clippers in your hand and real clients in your chair — so you graduate ready to earn, not just ready to pass.

Real Clients, Real Hours

You're cutting real clients on the floor within weeks — hundreds of cuts logged before you ever sit the board. That's what builds a barber.

94% Board Pass Rate

Our state-board pass rate is among the best in Texas because we drill the exam relentlessly. You'll walk in confident and walk out licensed.

Working-Barber Instructors

You learn from barbers who've actually built careers and chairs of their own — not people reading from a script. Real craft, passed down.

Financing That Works

Flexible financing and payment plans make enrolling possible. We'll walk you through the options so tuition never stands between you and the trade.

Job Placement Support

Our placement team connects graduates with Dallas shops hiring right now. Many students are interviewing before they've even finished the program.

The Business, Too

We teach pricing, building a book, and running a chair — so you graduate knowing how to make a living, not just how to fade.

About the Academy

Twelve Years Building Barbers

Halcombe Barber Academy opened on Main Street in 2014 with a simple belief: barbering is a craft and a career, and it deserves to be taught like one. Not a shortcut, not a video course — a real, hands-on apprenticeship in a modern classroom, built to turn beginners into licensed barbers who can walk into any shop in Dallas and earn from day one.

Twelve years and more than a thousand graduates later, that belief hasn't changed. Our students learn the way barbers have always learned — with clippers in hand and real clients in the chair — but with the structure, board prep, and business training that a modern career demands. Our instructors are working barbers who've built their own chairs and books; they teach the craft the way it was passed to them, one cut at a time. We drill the state board until passing it feels easy, we teach the business side most schools skip, and our placement team makes sure graduates land in shops that are hiring. Financing keeps the door open for anyone with the drive, whatever their starting point. If you've ever thought about making barbering your living, this is where it starts.

The Curriculum

What You'll Master

Every skill a licensed barber needs — taught in order, drilled on real clients, and tested until it's second nature.

1

Cuts & Clipper Work

Scissor-over-comb, clipper technique, tapers, and classic cuts — the foundation everything else is built on, drilled until it's muscle memory.

2

Fades & Design

Skin fades, drop fades, burst fades, and freehand design work — the modern skills clients ask for and shops hire for.

3

Shaves & Beard Work

Straight-razor shaves, hot-towel service, and beard sculpting done safely and cleanly — the classic barbering that sets you apart.

4

Board Prep & Business

State-board written and practical prep, plus pricing, clients, and running a chair — so you graduate licensed and ready to earn.

Don't Let Tuition Stop You

The biggest thing standing between most people and a barbering career isn't talent — it's how to pay for the training. We built Halcombe to remove that barrier. Flexible financing, payment plans, and guidance through every funding option mean that if you've got the drive, there's a way in.

And the support doesn't stop at enrollment. From your first day, you've got instructors invested in you passing the board and building a real career. Our placement team works Dallas's shop network to line up interviews and chairs for graduates — many students are already fielding offers before they finish. We teach the business of barbering so you know how to price your work, build a loyal book, and eventually run your own chair or shop. This isn't a school that hands you a certificate and waves goodbye; it's a launchpad that stays with you until you're standing on your own, clippers in hand, earning a living from the craft. That's the whole point of Halcombe.

  • Flexible financing & payment plans
  • Job placement in Dallas shops
  • Business & book-building training

Careers That Started Here

I came to Halcombe with zero experience and left a licensed barber with a chair waiting for me. The training is nothing like watching videos — you're on the floor cutting real clients within weeks, with an instructor right over your shoulder catching every mistake before it becomes a habit. By the time I sat the state board I'd already done hundreds of cuts. Passed first try. Best decision I ever made for my career.

I was cutting hair out of my kitchen for years and knew I needed to go legit. The Crossover Course at Halcombe got me licensed fast without starting from scratch, and the board-prep intensive at the end was worth every penny — the exam felt easy after how hard they pushed us. The instructors genuinely care whether you make it. I've got my own booth now and I owe the start of it to this place.

What sold me on Halcombe was that they don't just teach you to cut — they teach you the business. Pricing, clients, building a book, running a chair. I graduated knowing how to actually make a living, not just how to fade. The financing made it possible for me to enroll in the first place, and the placement team had me interviewing at shops before I'd even finished. Real career, real support, start to finish.
Diego R.Full Program, Class of 2023
My weekends were free and I wanted a trade, so I started with the Weekend Foundations course just to test the water. Loved it so much I rolled into the full program. The instructors are working barbers who've actually built careers, not people reading from a manual, and the hands-on hours on real clients are what make the difference. I walked out licensed and confident. If you're on the fence about barbering, just go do it here.

Admissions Questions

Good to Know

Do I need any experience to enroll?

None at all. The majority of our Full Program students walk in with zero professional experience — just an interest in the craft and the drive to make it a career. The program is built to take you from your very first clipper pass all the way to a licensed barber ready for the chair. Everything is taught in order, hands-on, with an instructor over your shoulder, so you're never thrown in the deep end. If you're already licensed in cosmetology, the Crossover Course gets you a barber license faster; and if you just want to test the water, Weekend Foundations is a low-commitment way to start. Whatever your starting point, there's a path.

How long does the program take?

The Full Barbering Program is 1,000 hours, which is the Texas state requirement for barber licensure. Full-time students typically finish in around nine to eleven months; the Weekend Foundations track runs longer since it's part-time, and the Crossover Course is much shorter because it builds on hours you already have. We'll map out an exact timeline for your situation and start dates when you request info. What matters most is that every one of those hours is hands-on — you're spending them cutting real clients on the floor, not just sitting in lectures, which is what makes our graduates board-ready and shop-ready.

Is financing really available?

Yes, and it's a core part of how we operate — we never want tuition to be the reason someone with the drive can't train. We offer flexible financing and payment plans, and our admissions team will sit down with you and walk through every option to find something that works for your budget. The goal is to make enrolling genuinely possible, not just theoretically available. When you request info, just ask about financing and we'll break down the numbers honestly and clearly, with no pressure. Plenty of our graduates tell us they only enrolled because the financing made it feasible — and it changed their lives.

What happens after I graduate?

You graduate a licensed barber, and our job is to make sure you actually land in a chair. Our placement team works Dallas's network of shops to line up interviews and openings for graduates, and because local owners know the caliber of Halcombe training, our students get real traction — many are interviewing before they've even finished the program. Beyond placement, we've taught you the business side: how to price, how to build and keep a loyal client book, and how to eventually run your own chair or shop. So whether you want to work at an established barbershop, rent a booth, or open your own place down the line, you leave with both the license and the know-how to do it.

Can I visit before I enroll?

Absolutely, and we strongly encourage it — most people know Halcombe is right for them the moment they walk the floor. Reach out to book a campus tour and you'll see the training stations, watch a class in action, meet the instructors, and get every question answered face to face. It's the best way to get a feel for how hands-on the training really is and whether the vibe fits you. There's zero obligation; plenty of people tour, take time to think, and enroll later. Just call (214) 555-0176 or request info below and we'll set up a time that works for you.

What's the difference between the programs?

The Full Barbering Program is the complete career-launch path — 1,000 hours from beginner to licensed, and the right choice for most people starting fresh. The Master Barber Course is for already-licensed barbers who want to sharpen advanced fades, razor work, and design. The Crossover Course is specifically for licensed cosmetologists adding a barber license. Weekend Foundations is a part-time entry point if you're keeping a day job and want to start slow. Board Prep is a short, focused intensive for anyone who just needs to nail the state exam. And Instructor Training is for barbers who want to teach. When you request info, we'll help you pick the one that fits your goal and starting point.
