What The Wood Decides
Species is not decoration. Maple takes paint flatter than anything else and is why most painted kitchens are poplar or maple underneath. Cherry darkens for two years after it leaves the shop, which delights some people and alarms others. White oak is hard, open-grained and unforgiving of a sloppy finish.
We buy rough-sawn Pennsylvania hardwood and mill it here, which means we choose the boards for your job rather than accepting whatever a supplier picked. It also means we can tell you, honestly, when the cheaper species is the better one for your room.

What We Do Not Charge Extra For
Dovetail drawer boxes
Solid maple, dovetailed, on full-extension soft-close runners. Standard on every job including the vanity nobody sees inside.
Plywood carcases
Never particleboard. It costs us more and it is the reason a Follenwood kitchen survives a leak that would write off a cheaper one.
Measured after demolition
We come back once the old kitchen is out and the walls are visible. Every quote assumes that visit.
Ten-year workmanship warranty
Doors, drawers, hinges and finish. If something moves, we come and adjust it — and we have done it eleven years after a job.

What Lancaster County Says
We priced the same kitchen with a national brand and with Follenwood. The brand was cheaper on paper until you matched the specification — solid doors, dovetail boxes, real plywood — and then it was not cheaper at all.
Our kitchen has a wall that runs out by nearly two inches over twelve feet. Nothing off a shelf was ever going to fit it. Theirs does, because they made it after they measured rather than before.
Eleven years on, the drawers still close the way they did the first week. One hinge has been adjusted, by them, for free, on a Saturday.

We mill our own stock
Rough-sawn Pennsylvania hardwood comes in and gets thicknessed, ripped and profiled here. We pick the boards for your doors rather than taking what arrives.
We spray in the shop
A controlled booth gives a harder, more even finish than any site application, and it keeps the dust and the smell out of your house.
The person who measured installs it
Six cabinetmakers. The one who took your dimensions is the one scribing the filler on install day, which removes the most common source of blame.

How does custom compare to a big-brand kitchen?
On the sticker, custom usually looks higher. Match the specification — plywood carcases, solid doors, dovetail drawer boxes, full-extension runners — and the gap narrows sharply, and sometimes closes. We are happy to go through a competing quote line by line and show you which lines are not the same.
How long does a kitchen take?
Ten to fourteen weeks from approved drawings, of which six to ten are in the shop. Built-ins and vanities are shorter. The real date goes on the quote and we tell you before the date if anything threatens it.
Painted or stained?
Painted work is usually poplar or maple, costs less, and looks crisper in a room with strong light. Stained work has to be solid hardwood with grain matched across every door and it shows everything. We will give you a door sample in both before you decide.
Do you make just one piece?
Yes — a vanity, a bookcase, one wardrobe. There is no minimum. Plenty of kitchens start as a customer testing us on a single bathroom vanity.
Can you match cabinetry that already exists?
Usually. We take a door, identify the species and profile, and grind cutters to match. It is a common request in older Lancaster County houses and it is normally cheaper than replacing a room's worth of good cabinetry.
Are you registered and insured?
Pennsylvania Home Improvement Contractor registration PA118427, with general liability and workers' compensation. Certificates go out with every quote.
