Our Approach

Quiet Competence Is a Form of Kindness

Families call us on the hardest weeks of their lives, which is why everything about Rowan & Dove is designed to be easy: one phone call, one gentle conversation about what you need, and one team that arrives early, serves warmly, and leaves the space exactly as it was.

There is no menu homework unless you want it. Tell us how many people and what feels right — comforting and traditional, or light and celebratory — and we'll bring a gathering worthy of the person it honors.

Arranging a Gathering

Three Gentle Steps

Most families have everything settled in a single call.

1

Call or Write, Any Day

A person answers every day, 8 to 8. Tell us the date, the place, and roughly how many people.

2

We Suggest, You Decide

We'll propose a menu that fits the gathering and the budget — approve it and you're done.

3

The Day Is Carried For You

We arrive early, serve gently, keep everything full, and leave the space as we found it.

For the Days After

Meals Delivered to the Family Home

Grief doesn't end when the reception does, and neither does the need for dinner. For the week — or weeks — after a loss, we deliver complete meals to the family home: labeled, ready to warm, and left at the door if that's what the day calls for.

For families sitting shiva, we deliver each evening's meal quietly and on time, with the traditions handled correctly and without ceremony. Many families tell us these deliveries, more than anything, were what carried them through.

  • Complete dinners, labeled and ready to warm
  • Evening shiva meals through the week of mourning
  • Standing deliveries for as long as they help
  • Arranged by anyone — family, friends, or clergy
From Families

Words We Hold Onto

They handled everything with two days' notice — the room, the food, the coffee that never ran out. We were free to be with our people instead of managing an event. I will never forget that kindness.

The team was invisible in the best way. Platters stayed full, tables stayed tidy, and no one from our family lifted a finger. My father would have approved of the roast beef, too.

They understood shiva without needing an explanation — the right foods, delivered quietly each evening, set up and gone. It meant more than I can say.

Common Questions

Answers for a Difficult Week

How quickly can you arrange catering?

Most memorial receptions and funeral luncheons are arranged within 48 hours, and we regularly serve gatherings booked the same week. Call us first — we'll tell you honestly what's possible for your date.

What does memorial catering cost?

Reception spreads run $18-28 per guest; full luncheons $24-38 with staff and service included. We'll always suggest the option that serves your gathering well without spending more than it needs.

Can you serve at our church or funeral home?

Yes — we work in fellowship halls, funeral home reception rooms, restaurants' private rooms, and family homes across greater Philadelphia. We bring everything the venue doesn't have.

Do you accommodate religious and cultural traditions?

With care and accuracy — kosher-style and shiva meals, halal-aware menus, repast traditions, and any family customs you share with us. If we're unsure of a detail, we ask rather than assume.

Who handles the arrangements if the family can't?

We regularly work directly with funeral directors, clergy, and out-of-town relatives. One call from anyone coordinating, and we'll take it from there — including billing wherever it needs to go.

What if we don't know the guest count?

No one ever does, and that's fine. We plan generously around your best guess, build in flexibility, and pack any remaining food for the family afterward.
