Country Church in Galena, IL
Hymns, a Bible message and coffee in the basement afterward, five miles out of town on Haddon Creek Road. Come as you are. You'll be greeted by name the second time.

Same Little Church Since 1868
Farm families built Haddon Creek Church in 1868 with lumber hauled from the river. The pews have been refinished, the furnace replaced twice and the parking lot finally paved, but Sunday looks a lot like it always has: hymns, a reading from the Bible, a message from our pastor and plenty of time to talk afterward.
We're a small church, about sixty people on a good Sunday. Farmers, teachers, retirees and young families from Galena, Elizabeth and Scales Mound. If you come once, someone will remember your name.
- ✓One service, every Sunday at 10:00
- ✓Sunday school for all ages at 9:00

Life At Haddon Creek

A Church That Shows Up
When the creek flooded in the spring, the basement became a supply room. Every fall we host a pie supper that pays for the food pantry shelf at the Elizabeth school, and the men's group splits firewood for anyone who needs it through the winter. Out here, being a church mostly means showing up.
- ✓Fall pie supper
- ✓Food pantry shelf
- ✓Firewood for neighbors
Why People Keep Coming Back
My grandparents were married in this church and so were we. It's still the place where somebody notices you missed a Sunday and calls to check in.
We bought the old farm on Rocky Hill Road and didn't know a soul. Two Sundays in, we had three casseroles and an invitation to help with the fall dinner.
The Wednesday Bible study is eight of us around a folding table with coffee. It's the best hour of my week, and nobody makes you read out loud.
Keeping The Lights On
A small church runs on its members. If you're visiting, please don't feel you need to give.
The Offering Plate
Passed during the Sunday service. Envelopes are in the pew racks.
