Traditional Church in Savannah, GA
The old prayers, hymns with a pipe organ and a robed choir, in a parish church on one of Savannah's squares. Visitors are always welcome.
A Parish Church In The Old Way
Ainsworth Square Parish has gathered on the same corner of the square for more than 170 years. Our worship follows the church year and a set order of prayers that Christians have said for centuries, with the Bible read aloud every Sunday and Communion at the altar rail.
You don't need to know the words. Everything is printed in the service leaflet, and someone near you will be glad to help you find your place.

Music Is How We Pray
Our choir of adults and older students sings at the 10:30 service and at Evensong, with music from plainsong to living composers. The organ is played every Sunday, and the choir rehearses on Thursday evenings. New singers are welcome, and no audition is needed for the parish choir.

What A Sunday Is Like
Take A Leaflet
An usher will hand you the service leaflet with every word and hymn number in it.
Stand, Sit, Kneel
Follow the people around you, or stay seated throughout. Either is fine.
Come To The Rail
Everyone is welcome to come forward, to receive Communion or for a blessing with arms crossed.
Stay For Coffee
Coffee hour is in the parish hall after the 10:30. It's the best way to meet people.
Why People Come Here
I grew up with the old prayers and missed them more than I knew. The first Sunday here, the organ started the opening hymn and I had to sit down. We've been in the same pew for six years now.
We weren't members when we asked about a wedding. The parish office walked us through everything, the choir sang, and two years later our daughter was baptized at the same font.
Evensong on the first Sunday is the most peaceful hour of my month. Candles, the choir, and nobody asks anything of you except to listen.
How Parishioners Give
Visitors are our guests. For those who call Ainsworth Square home, these gifts keep the doors open, the organ playing and the outreach going.
Annual Pledge
Each fall, parishioners make a pledge for the coming year. It lets the parish plan the year ahead.
The Offering
Envelopes or cash in the offering plate on Sunday, or a check mailed to the parish office.
Online
Write to the parish office and we'll reply with our secure online giving link.
Memorial Gifts
Gifts in someone's memory for the music, flowers or the building, recorded in the parish book.
Before You Come
Which service should I come to first?
The 10:30 on Sunday has the choir, organ and hymns, and is followed by coffee hour. If you'd rather keep it quiet, the 8:00 is spoken and about 45 minutes.
What should I wear?
Whatever you'd wear to a nice lunch. Some people dress up, many don't.
Can I receive Communion if I'm visiting?
Everyone is welcome to come to the altar rail. You can receive Communion or cross your arms over your chest for a blessing, whichever you're comfortable with.
Is there something for children?
Yes. Children are welcome in the service, and Sunday school for ages 4 to 11 meets during the first part of the 10:30. A nursery is staffed for little ones.
Where do I park?
Metered street parking around the square is free on Sundays. A step-free entrance is on the south side of the church.
Can I get married here if I'm not a member?
We welcome couples with a family connection to the parish, and couples who'd like to become part of it. Call the parish office to talk it through.
