The Box Is 70% of the Price. Nobody Shows You One.
Kitchen quotes get compared on doors, handles and worktop, because that is what a showroom puts in front of you. But most of what you're paying for is the carcass behind the door — and it is the one component you will never look at again after installation day.
So we put two boxes on the table at the first meeting. One ours, one the cheap one. You pull both drawers out. The conversation about price gets a great deal shorter after that.

What a Boise Kitchen Costs, and Where It Goes
2026 all-in ranges for a typical 200-250 sq ft kitchen. We quote with published allowances for the things you haven't chosen yet, so you can see exactly what moves the number.
$28,000 - $45,000 · Refresh, same layout
New semi-custom cabinets, quartz counters, splashback, sink, tap, lighting and paint. Nothing moves. Appliances yours.
$45,000 - $75,000 · Full remodel, layout changed
The above plus moving plumbing and electrical, a new island, flooring through, and usually a wall opened up. This is where most of our work lands.
$75,000 - $130,000 · Custom cabinetry
Built rather than ordered, stone slab, integrated appliances, structural work. Twelve to sixteen weeks including the build.
Where the allowances sit
Counters, tile, handles, tap, lighting and flooring are allowances on your quote with a per-unit rate. Choose under and you get the difference back; choose over and you see the cost before you commit, not on the final invoice.
What we don't put an allowance on
Cabinets, labour and the trades — those are fixed. An 'allowance' on cabinetry is how a low bid becomes a high invoice, and it's the first thing to check on any quote.
Appliances Have to Be Chosen Before Cabinets Are Ordered
Not after. This is the single most common and most expensive sequencing error in a kitchen remodel, and it is entirely avoidable.
Panel-ready changes the cabinet order
An integrated fridge needs a panel built to the appliance maker's spec, in the cabinet run, ordered with the cabinets. Decide afterwards and the run has to be re-made.
Ranges are not a standard width
30", 36" and 48" all exist and a 48" range changes the whole cabinet layout, the hood, the gas line and often the electrical. It is a design decision, not a shopping one.
Ventilation drives the ceiling
CFM requirements set the duct size and route. On a second storey that can mean a soffit you weren't expecting. We settle it at design stage.
Built-ins need their power in the right cabinet
Ovens, warming drawers and coffee machines each need a circuit landing in a specific box. Rough-in happens before cabinets, so the list has to be final by then.
So we ask for the model numbers
Before we order a single cabinet, we want the actual models. If you haven't chosen, we'll help — that's a design meeting, not a delay.
What it saves
A re-made cabinet run is typically $2,000-$6,000 and three to five weeks. We've never had to do one on a kitchen where the appliances were settled at design stage.
You Will Not Have a Kitchen for Six Weeks
Six to eight weeks on site is the realistic number for a full remodel, and for most of it there is no sink, no oven and no worktop. Any contractor telling you three weeks is either not moving anything or not telling you the truth.
What we can do is make it survivable, and we do it on day one without being asked — because the families who cope best are the ones who set up properly before demolition rather than improvising in week two.

How a Kitchen Gets Made
Design takes longer than the build. That is deliberate.
Design call
Half an hour on the phone or in the studio. What's wrong with the kitchen you have, what you cook, and a realistic budget band. No charge.
Measure & concept
We measure, then draw two or three layouts. You'll see the cabinet boxes and the allowance sheet at this stage, not after you've signed.
Selections & order
Cabinets, counters, appliances and finishes all settled together. Cabinets are ordered only once the appliance model numbers are final. Four to eight weeks lead time.
Build
Six to eight weeks on site. Demolition, services, cabinets, template, counters, splashback, finish. Your designer is on site weekly, not just at the start.
Handover
You write the punch list, we work through it, and you get the care sheets and every warranty in one folder.

Questions Worth Asking Any Kitchen Company
What does 'custom' mean on your quote?
Three different things, and it's worth being precise. Stock is off-the-shelf sizes. Semi-custom is a catalogue with modifications — which covers most kitchens beautifully. Full custom is built to your drawing, and roughly doubles the cabinet cost. We'll tell you which one your kitchen actually needs.
Frameless or face-frame?
Frameless gives you more usable space and a flush modern look. Face-frame is more forgiving in an old house with out-of-square walls, and suits traditional doors. Neither is better; they suit different houses. We show you both.
How long is the whole thing, not just the build?
Twelve to twenty weeks door to door for a full remodel. Design and selections take four to six, cabinet lead time is four to eight, and the build is six to eight. Most of that is not on site.
Can I supply my own cabinets or counters?
Cabinets, no — we won't warranty an install on boxes we haven't specified. Counters and appliances, yes, and we'll say so on the quote so the allowance comes off.
Do you charge for design?
The first call and the concept are free. A full measured drawing set is $850, which comes off the contract if you proceed. It's yours either way — we don't hold drawings hostage.
What's the most common regret?
Storage, not finishes. People rarely wish they'd chosen a different worktop; they very often wish they'd spent another $1,500 on drawers instead of doors, and a proper pantry.
