About Pennacott

Former CFOs, Working For You Part-Time

Pennacott is four senior finance leaders who have run the numbers inside growing Colorado companies — manufacturing, healthcare, outdoor brands and professional services. We started the firm because businesses between $2 and $40 million in revenue need CFO judgment long before they can justify a CFO's salary.

We work alongside your bookkeeper and your tax accountant, not instead of them. They keep the books and file the returns; we turn those numbers into decisions.

Signs You've Outgrown Your Bookkeeper Alone

Profitable, but always short of cash

The P&L says you made money. The bank account disagrees, especially around payroll.

You're about to borrow or raise money

A lender or investor will ask for projections and clean reporting you don't have yet.

You don't know which work makes money

Some customers, locations or products are losing money. You just can't see which.

Decisions wait for year-end

You find out how last year went in April. That's too late to change anything.

From The Owners We Work With

★★★★★
For years I ran a $9 million business off the bank balance. Pennacott gave us a 13-week cash forecast and a monthly board pack, and for the first time I can see a cash crunch coming two months out.
Jenna CastilloFounder · Specialty food manufacturer
★★★★★
They got our numbers lender-ready in six weeks. The bank approved our expansion loan on the first submission, and the credit officer said our package was the cleanest he'd seen all year.
Marcus HaleOwner · Multi-location dental group
★★★★★
A part-time CFO who actually knows our business. We get the strategic thinking of a full-time hire at about a quarter of the cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from my bookkeeper or tax accountant?

Your bookkeeper records what happened and your tax accountant files your returns. We use those numbers to plan what happens next: cash forecasts, budgets, pricing and financing. We work alongside both of them.

What does a fractional CFO cost?

Most clients spend $3,500 to $8,000 a month depending on how many days they need — a fraction of a full-time CFO's salary and benefits. Every engagement has a written scope and a fixed monthly fee.

Do you manage investments or personal finances?

No. We work only on your business's finances. For personal financial planning or investments, talk to a licensed financial advisor.

Do you only work with Denver companies?

Most of our clients are along the Front Range, from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs, and we meet in person monthly. We also work with companies across the Mountain West remotely.

What size of business do you work with?

Typically companies with $2 million to $40 million in revenue. Smaller businesses often start with a single cash-flow or lending project.

Is our information kept confidential?

Yes. We sign a confidentiality agreement before reviewing any financials, and access to your systems is read-only unless you decide otherwise.
