The Business Case

Childcare Is a Retention Strategy in Disguise

The most in-demand benefit of the decade isn't a perk — it's the reason working parents stay, return, and recruit their friends.

Retention That Pays for Itself

Replacing an experienced employee costs 6-9 months of salary. On-site care is the benefit parents won't leave behind.

Faster Return From Leave

New parents come back sooner and more confidently when the center is downstairs, not across town.

Fewer Missed Days

When care falls through, work stops. On-site and backup care turn childcare emergencies into non-events.

A Magnet for Talent

'We have on-site childcare' ends interviews early — in your favor. It's the recruiting line parents remember.

Culture, Made Visible

Nothing says 'we see your whole life' like a nursery in the building. It changes how a workplace feels.

Measurable, Reportable

We track utilization, retention lift, and return-from-leave — the numbers your CFO and board want to see.

The Shortest Commute They'll Ever Have

For a working parent, the daily childcare gauntlet is exhausting: the second commute, the drop-off scramble, the pickup deadline that haunts every afternoon meeting. On-site care erases all of it.

Parents walk in together, visit at lunch, nurse on a break, and leave together. The mental load — the one that quietly drives parents (especially mothers) out of the workforce — finally lifts. That relief is what your retention numbers are really made of.

  • No second commute, no pickup deadline
  • Lunch-break visits & on-site nursing
  • The mental load, finally lifted

We stood up an on-site center with Little Commute in under six months, and it's the single most-praised benefit in our engagement survey. Return-from-parental-leave went up double digits. It pays for itself in retention alone.

My commute with my daughter is now an elevator ride. I nurse her on my lunch break. I stopped rehearsing daycare-pickup logistics in my head during meetings. I will never leave this job — and I mean that.

As an HR director I vetted four providers. Little Commute was the only one that handled licensing, staffing, and curriculum end-to-end while treating our culture and our budget like they mattered. True partners.

Backup care saved us during flu season and every school snow day. When the sitter falls through, my kids have a warm, licensed place to go — the same day — and I don't burn a PTO day or a deadline.

Enterprise-Grade Safety, Warm-Hearted Care

A workplace center has to clear two bars: the exacting standards of your risk and facilities teams, and the far higher bar of a parent leaving their baby down the hall. We're built for both.

Every center is fully WA DCYF licensed, with secure badge-access entry, camera coverage, rigorous ratios (1:4 for infants), background-checked and CPR-certified staff, and documented health, allergy, and emergency protocols. Your legal team gets the compliance binder; your parents get peace of mind.

Questions

For Employers and for Parents

How long does it take to open an on-site center?

Typically six to nine months from go-ahead to doors-open, depending on the space and the licensing timeline. Near-site shared centers and backup-care programs can launch faster. We give you a gated timeline up front and hit it.

What does it cost, and who pays?

Models vary: some employers fully sponsor the center, others subsidize tuition, others simply provide space while parents pay market rate. We build the financial model with you during the demand study, including the retention-lift math that usually drives the ROI.

Do we have to run it? We're not childcare experts.

You don't run any of it. We handle design, licensing, staffing, curriculum, enrollment, compliance, and daily operations end-to-end. You get a single accountable partner and quarterly reporting — not a second business to manage.

What about liability and compliance?

Every center is fully licensed by WA DCYF and operated to enterprise risk standards — documented protocols, insurance, background checks, and a compliance binder your legal and facilities teams can audit any time.

Is the care any good, or just convenient?

Both. Convenience is the headline; quality is the substance. Low ratios, a play-based kindergarten-ready curriculum, warm consistent educators, and the same licensing and safety standards as any excellent standalone center.

What ages do you take, and can I visit during the day?

Infants (from six weeks) through Pre-K. And yes — visiting midday is the whole point. Lunch-break drop-ins and on-site nursing are encouraged; your badge is your access.

What if I change jobs — do I lose the spot?

For employer-sponsored spots, enrollment is tied to employment, so it's worth factoring in. Near-site and backup programs are more portable. We'll always be transparent about how your specific center's enrollment works.
