How a Parent Co-op Works
How much participation is actually required?
Less than most families fear. Typically a few classroom mornings a month (scaled to your program's days), one ongoing job matched to your skills, a handful of workdays a year, and monthly meetings. We're flexible and family-friendly about it — it flexes with your season of life, and our teachers make the classroom mornings genuinely enjoyable.
What if I work full-time — can I still join a co-op?
Many of our families do. Working parents split or trade participation, take jobs that happen on evenings or weekends (treasurer, webmaster, fix-it crew), and some grandparents or caregivers cover classroom mornings. We'll help you build a participation plan that actually fits your life.
Is a co-op really cheaper — and is the care as good?
Yes and yes. Because families run the operation, tuition runs about half of a commercial center's. And the care is arguably better: professional teachers PLUS a room full of loving parents means a ratio and warmth a drop-off center can't match. You trade time for money and community — most families feel they got the better end.
Who actually teaches — parents or professionals?
Professionals lead every classroom. Our experienced, credentialed early-childhood teachers design the curriculum and run the day; participating parents are trained helping hands alongside them. You'll never be left solely responsible for the room — the teachers are always in charge.
What are your ratios, licensing, and safety standards?
We're licensed by NY OCFS (Lic. #PR-441029), and with participating parents present our effective ratio is around 1:4 — richer than most centers. All teachers and regularly-participating parents are background-checked and CPR/first-aid oriented, with documented health and emergency protocols.
