Do children learn to read and do math here?
Yes — but later, and joyfully, on a foundation of rich imaginative play. Waldorf early childhood deliberately protects the years before six for play, movement, story, and handwork, which research links to stronger later academic and social outcomes. The letters and numbers arrive in the grades; here, we build the child who will love them.
Really no screens at all?
None, by design — and we gently ask families to minimize them at home too, especially on school days. Early childhood is when the senses, attention, and inner imagination are forming; we protect that window fiercely, filling it instead with real materials, real nature, and real human warmth.
What is a 'rhythm' and why does it matter so much?
Rhythm is the gentle, predictable flow of the day, week, and year — the same songs on the same mornings, soup day, painting day, the turning festivals. For a young child, this steadiness is deeply reassuring; it frees them from anxiety about what comes next so they can pour themselves into play and growth.
What are the seasonal festivals?
Beautiful, gentle community celebrations that mark the turning year — a autumn lantern walk, a spring fair, a harvest feast, a winter spiral of light. They're non-religious, deeply atmospheric, and often the moment families feel they've found not just a school but a community.
What are your ratios and licensing?
We're licensed by California CCLD (Lic. #567300218), with a 1:6 kindergarten ratio, Waldorf-trained and background-checked teachers, CPR certification, and careful safety practices across our indoor rooms and gardens alike. Gentleness and diligence go hand in hand.
