Let the Trail Teach You — 4x4 & Off-Road Driving Courses in Moab
Four-wheel drive taught where it was invented as a lifestyle — real slickrock, real ledges, and instructors who've spotted a thousand rigs through them. Learn the skills, the recovery craft, and the judgment that gets you home.
Six Ways Up the Rock
Every course runs on real permitted trails — no gravel parking lots pretending to be terrain.

YouTube Can't Spot Your Line.
Off-roading punishes improvisation — the difference between a great day and a rollover is often one tire placement. Our instructors have guided eleven seasons on these exact trails: they read sand, sandstone, and drivers with equal fluency, and they teach the judgment layer no video can — when to commit, when to re-route, and when the trail wins today.
- ✓Permitted operators on every trail we run
- ✓Radios, spotters, and a recovery rig on every course
- ✓Instructors who guide these trails year-round
The Classroom Has No Roof
A hundred twenty miles of permitted sandstone, sand, and switchbacks — graded from first-timer to white-knuckle.

Provided, and What to Bring
Trail Rigs Available
Built, insured 4x4s for every course — or bring your own and we'll teach to exactly what it can do.
Recovery Gear Included
Winches, kinetic ropes, boards, and anchors on every course — you learn on professional kit before buying your own.
Radios & Spotters
Every rig gets a radio; every obstacle gets a spotter. Communication is the first recovery tool.
You Bring
Closed shoes, sun layers, and two liters of water. The desert is beautiful and completely indifferent — we plan accordingly.

The Trail Outlives Us. Drive Like It.
Moab's sandstone took two hundred million years to form and one careless season to scar. Every Slickrock course teaches minimum-impact travel as core curriculum — stay on route, cross crypto soil never, pack out everything, and leave obstacles cleaner than found. It's not a lecture; it's the local religion, and graduates carry it home.
- ✓Designated-route travel, taught and enforced
- ✓Crypto-soil and cultural-site awareness
- ✓Pack-out ethics on every single course
From Gravel to the Gnar
Foundations
4WD systems, tire placement, and throttle control — the intro course, where pavement habits get unlearned.
Terrain Craft
Slickrock, sand, and ledges — reading surfaces and sequencing obstacles in the clinic tier.
Self-Reliance
Recovery, winching, and field fixes — the skills that turn 'stuck' into a story instead of a helicopter.
Expedition Ready
Overlanding prep and guided big-trail days — everything assembled into multi-day backcountry competence.
Rigs Home, Paint Intact
I bought a built rig and had no idea what it could do — or what I couldn't. One day with Slickrock taught me tire placement, throttle discipline, and when to say no to an obstacle. Drove home more confident and, honestly, humbler.
The recovery course paid for itself the same season — buried to the frame on a solo trip, and instead of panic I ran the exact winching sequence we'd drilled. Anchor, dampener, spotter position, out in twenty minutes.
We did the overlanding prep course before a three-week Utah-Arizona loop with the kids. Packing, airing down, trail etiquette, backcountry judgment — every single module got used. Best trip insurance we ever bought.
Asked at the Air-Down
Is my stock SUV enough, or do I need a built rig?
Stock is plenty for the intro course and most of the ladder — modern crossovers and trucks are more capable than their owners believe. We match every course's terrain to the vehicles present, and we'll tell you honestly when an obstacle exceeds your rig rather than let you find out mid-climb.
Will my vehicle get damaged?
Our record says no: eleven seasons, zero rigs left behind, and body damage is rare enough to be memorable. Every obstacle is walked and spotted, every line has a bail-out, and 'the trail wins today' is always an acceptable answer.
Can I rent one of your rigs?
Yes — built, insured trail rigs are available for every course at a day rate. Most first-timers start in ours and graduate to their own; recovery gear is included either way.
When's the best season?
March through May and September through November are prime — mild temperatures and grippy rock. Summer courses run at dawn; winter is by arrangement and honestly magical when conditions allow.
What do courses cost?
In line with other permitted Moab operators — half-day intros at the accessible end, full recovery and overlanding courses more, group rates for clubs. Current pricing comes with your trail dates.
Do you run private or group courses?
Both. Scheduled courses cap at six rigs for spotter coverage; private days — couples, clubs, families — book the whole guide team and set their own pace.
