From Permit to License — Teen Driver's Ed in Columbus, Ohio
Patient instructors, dual-control cars, and lessons that actually make sense to teenagers. Duckworth has turned twelve thousand nervous permits into confident licenses — yours is next.

Pick Your Road
State-required packages, single lessons, and the confidence courses in between — every one taught in a dual-control car by a licensed instructor.

Lessons That Don't Feel Like a Lecture.
Nobody learns to drive while being yelled at. Duckworth instructors are picked for patience first — they explain the why, not just the what, and they've heard every nervous question a sixteen-year-old can invent. Most students say the same thing after lesson one: 'that was actually... fine?'
- ✓Same instructor every lesson, so trust builds
- ✓Calm, specific feedback — never sarcasm
- ✓Music low, phones away, zero passengers judging
Built for First-Time Drivers

Dual-Control Cars
Every academy car has an instructor brake and mirror set. Mistakes become teaching moments, not emergencies — and parents sleep better knowing it.

Real Columbus Routes
We practice where the test happens and where teens actually drive — school lots, High Street, roundabouts, and eventually the on-ramp everyone dreads.

Progress Parents Can See
After every lesson, a short report lands in your inbox — what we practiced, what clicked, and exactly what to rehearse before next time.
Permit to License in Four Steps
Ohio's rules, translated — we track the hours, the paperwork, and the readiness so families don't have to.
Get the Permit
Pass the knowledge test at the BMV — our free study sheet and practice quiz get most teens through on the first visit.
Classroom + Wheel Time
24 classroom hours (online or in person) and 8 hours behind the wheel with us, woven around your family's actual schedule.
Practice With a Plan
50 hours with a parent, guided by our practice roadmap — each week builds one skill instead of circling the same parking lot.
Pass the Test
A road-test rehearsal on the real maneuvers the week before. Then the license photo — arguably the hardest part.

The Safest Seat They'll Ever Learn In.
You're not really buying driving lessons — you're buying the version of your kid who checks mirrors without being told. Duckworth instructors are background-checked, ODPS-licensed, and trained to teach the crash-avoidance habits that matter statistically, not just the test tricks. Twenty-one years, twelve thousand teens, and our phones still ring with 'my kid just drove to college' updates.
- ✓Licensed, background-checked instructors
- ✓Fully insured, dual-control academy cars
- ✓Lesson reports after every single drive
What the Pass Rate Is Made Of
Skills in the Right Order
Empty lot before neighborhood, neighborhood before High Street, High Street before highway. Confidence stacks when nothing gets skipped.
The Maneuverability Whisperers
Ohio's cone test sinks more first attempts than anything else. We teach a reference-point method that turns it into a party trick.
Calm Is a Curriculum
Breathing resets, talk-aloud driving, and mistake recovery are taught on purpose — because a calm driver is a safe driver, on test day and every day after.
Where the Learning Happens
Our cars, our practice lots, and the Columbus streets your teen will own by graduation.

Report Cards We're Proud Of
My daughter went from crying in the driveway to parallel parking downtown in six lessons. Her instructor never raised his voice once — she actually looked forward to Saturdays.
I failed my test twice with another school. Duckworth figured out in one lesson that nobody had ever actually taught me how to judge gaps. Passed the next try with a perfect maneuvers score.
The parent workshop was the surprise hit — they taught US how to practice with her without the whole car turning into an argument. Worth it for the laminated practice guide alone.
Asked by Every Family (Usually in the First Call)
What does Ohio actually require for a teen license?
Under 18: a permit held for at least six months, 24 hours of classroom instruction, 8 hours behind the wheel with a licensed school, and 50 hours of practice with a parent or guardian (10 at night). Our Teen Package covers the school hours and we coach you through the rest.
Do you pick up from home or school?
Yes — lessons can start and end at home, school, or practice. It's included inside our service area, which covers most of Franklin County and the northern suburbs.
My teen is genuinely terrified. Is that a problem?
It's our specialty. Nervous students get our most patient instructors, shorter first lessons, and empty-lot starts. Fear usually converts to focus by lesson three — we've watched it happen a few thousand times.
How much does the full package cost?
Teen packages are priced comparably to other licensed Columbus schools, with payment plans that split it over the training months. Exact current pricing comes with the availability text — no surprises, no upsells mid-course.
Can we just book road test prep?
Absolutely. A two-lesson test-prep package — one full mock test, one maneuvers clinic — is our most popular à la carte option, especially for teens who did driver ed elsewhere.
What happens if they fail the road test?
Rare, but it happens — Ohio lets you retest after a short wait. We do a free debrief of the examiner's sheet, one targeted refresher on whatever went sideways, and the second attempt almost always sticks.
