Signs Your Home Needs Rewiring
Two-Prong, Ungrounded Outlets
Ungrounded outlets throughout the house mean old wiring that can't safely handle modern electronics.
Knob-and-Tube or Cloth Wiring
If your home is pre-1950 and never rewired, it likely hides knob-and-tube — brittle, ungrounded, and uninsurable.
Flickering, Warm, or Buzzing
Flickering lights, warm outlets, or buzzing behind the wall are old wiring telling you it's failing.

Careful, permitted, and planned around your life.

We inspect your wiring, identify what needs replacing, and map a room-by-room plan around your schedule.

Kansas City Homeowners on Rewire & Co
Our 1920s Kansas City home still had original knob-and-tube wiring — our insurer wouldn't renew until it was replaced. Rewire & Co rewired the entire house without tearing the plaster apart, replaced the panel, added grounded outlets in every room, and pulled every permit. Twenty-four years of doing exactly this shows: careful, tidy, and they treated our old house with respect. It passed inspection and our insurance is sorted.
We had aluminum wiring from the '70s — a real fire risk we didn't fully understand until Rewire explained it. They remediated every connection properly, added the right devices, and documented it all for our insurer. Professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely reassuring.
Flickering lights and two-prong outlets everywhere in a house we just bought. Rewire & Co rewired it room by room around our schedule, cleaned up every day, and the price matched the quote exactly. The most respectful, skilled crew we've had in our home.

Old Wiring Is a Risk You Can't See
Knob-and-tube, cloth-insulated, and aluminum wiring were fine in their day — but decades of heat, brittle insulation, and modern electrical loads turn them into a genuine fire hazard hidden inside your walls. Many insurers now refuse to cover homes that still have them. You can't see the risk, but it's there every time you flip a switch. Rewire & Co replaces it safely, cleanly, and with the documentation to prove it's done.
- ✓Knob-and-tube and cloth wiring degrade with age
- ✓Aluminum wiring is a documented fire risk
- ✓Many insurers won't cover old wiring
- ✓We replace it safely and document it fully
Rewiring FAQs
Do you have to tear my walls apart to rewire?
No — that's a myth we've spent 24 years disproving. We use minimal-damage 'fishing' techniques to run new wiring through existing walls with small, strategic access points, sparing your plaster and trim wherever possible. We patch what we do open, and we'll walk you through exactly what to expect before we start.
How long does a whole-home rewire take?
It depends on the size and age of your home, but most whole-home rewires take several days to a couple of weeks. We work room by room around your schedule so your home stays livable, and we give you a clear timeline in your quote.
Why won't my insurer cover knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring?
Both are associated with higher fire risk — knob-and-tube because its insulation becomes brittle with age and it's ungrounded, and aluminum because its connections can loosen and overheat. Many insurers now require replacement or remediation to issue or renew a policy. We do the work and provide the documentation they ask for.
Can I rewire just part of my house?
Absolutely. Not every home needs a full rewire — sometimes it's one problem circuit, a few ungrounded rooms, or a specific hazard. We'll assess honestly and recommend only what your home actually needs, whether that's a targeted fix or a full rewire.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — Rewire & Co is a licensed Missouri electrical contractor (#KC-EL-2291) and fully insured. Rewiring touches every part of your home's electrical system, so licensed, permitted, inspected work isn't optional — it's the whole point.
