Our Academy

More Than Kicks and Punches

At Ironwood, martial arts is a vehicle for something bigger. Yes, your child will learn real karate and taekwondo — proper technique, genuine self-defense, the focus to break a board and the discipline to earn a belt. But what families come back for, year after year, is who their children become.

In our dojo, respect isn't a poster on the wall — it's bowed before every class. Discipline isn't a punishment — it's the quiet confidence of a kid who's set a goal and met it. For twenty-four years, our certified black-belt instructors have built character first, and watched the technique follow.

What They Gain

Skills That Last a Lifetime

The black belt is the goal. But the real rewards show up at home, at school, and in who your child becomes.

Unshakeable Confidence

Setting goals, earning belts, and standing tall builds a self-belief that follows kids into classrooms, friendships, and life.

Focus & Self-Control

Martial arts trains attention and impulse control — parents and teachers consistently notice the difference within weeks.

Real Self-Defense

Practical, age-appropriate skills to stay safe and stand up to bullies — taught with calm confidence, never aggression.

Strength & Fitness

An incredible full-body workout that builds coordination, flexibility, and stamina while kids are having too much fun to notice.

Respect & Character

Courtesy, integrity, and perseverance are woven into every class — the values that turn good kids into great adults.

Discipline & Goal-Setting

The belt system teaches that big achievements come from small, consistent effort — a lesson that pays off far beyond the dojo.

The Ironwood Way

Our Four Pillars

Every class, every belt, every student is built on the same foundation.

Respect

It starts with a bow and runs through everything — respect for instructors, training partners, family, and oneself.

Discipline

The quiet strength to show up, focus, and do the work — even when it's hard, even when no one's watching.

Focus

The trained ability to block out distraction and give a task your full attention — a superpower in any classroom or career.

Perseverance

Belts aren't given, they're earned — through falling down, getting up, and never quitting. That's the lesson that lasts.

Your Instructors

Led by Masters, Devoted to Students

Our instructors aren't just skilled martial artists — they're certified black belts with decades of combined experience and a genuine gift for teaching. They know that a three-year-old needs patience, a pre-teen needs challenge, and an adult needs respect, and they bring exactly the right energy to every class.

More than anything, they care. They learn every student's name, celebrate every breakthrough, and hold every belt to the standard it deserves. When you train at Ironwood, you're not a number on a roster — you're part of a family that's invested in who you become.

Ironwood Families

Two Decades of Proud Parents

Two years at Ironwood and my once-timid son now stands tall, looks adults in the eye, and earned his green belt. The instructors build character first and technique second. It's the best investment we've made in our kids.

I joined the adult class at 45 having never done martial arts. The respect and discipline in this dojo is real, but so is the warmth. I'm fitter, calmer, and more focused than I've been in years. Ironwood is special.

The Lil' Dragons program worked magic on my four-year-old's focus and listening. Master instructors who are wonderful with little ones. She asks to go to 'karate school' every single day. We couldn't be happier.

After the women's self-defense course I walk through the world differently — more aware, more capable, more confident. The instructors are patient, skilled, and genuinely invested. I recommend Ironwood to every woman I know.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the right age to start?

As young as three! Our Lil' Dragons program is built specifically for ages 3-5, using games and gentle structure to develop focus and coordination. From there, we have a class for every age all the way through adults — it's truly never too early or too late to start.

My child is shy / unfocused / not athletic — is that okay?

That's exactly who martial arts helps most. We've watched countless shy, distracted, or hesitant kids blossom into confident, focused young people. Our instructors meet every child where they are and build them up at their own pace. No athletic background needed.

Do you offer classes for adults?

Absolutely — our teen and adult classes are popular with everyone from total beginners to returning martial artists. It's a phenomenal workout, a powerful stress reliever, and a genuine skill, all in a welcoming, respectful environment. Many parents train alongside their kids.

What do we need for the first class?

Just comfortable workout clothes and bare feet — we provide everything else for your free intro class. If you enroll, we'll get you a uniform and walk you through everything. Arrive a few minutes early so we can give you a warm welcome and a quick tour.

How does the belt system work?

Students advance through colored belts by demonstrating skill, knowledge, and character at periodic testings. Each belt is a meaningful, earned milestone — never automatic. We'll explain exactly where your child is and what's next every step of the way.

How much does it cost?

We offer flexible monthly memberships with family discounts, and your first class is always free. Because the right program depends on age and goals, we'll give you straightforward pricing when you come in — no contracts sprung on you, no pressure.
