Baked Fresh Before Dawn

Real Bread, the Slow, Old Way
Hearth & Crumb began with a simple, stubborn belief: that bread should be made the way it's been made for centuries — with good flour, water, salt, time, and care. No shortcuts, no additives, no rushing what shouldn't be rushed.
Every morning, long before the sun comes up, we're milling, mixing, and hand-shaping the day's bakes. Our sourdough ferments slowly for over a day to develop its flavor and that crackling crust. Our croissants are laminated by hand with European butter. And our cakes are baked and decorated fresh to order. It's slower, harder, and a little obsessive — and you can taste the difference in every single bite.

Burlington Can't Get Enough
Hearth & Crumb makes the best sourdough I've had outside of Paris — genuinely. That crackling crust, the open crumb, the tang… I make a special trip across town every weekend for a loaf, and it's gone by Sunday night. An absolute Burlington treasure.
They made our wedding cake and I still have people asking about it two years later. Stunning to look at, and somehow even better to eat — light, not too sweet, with the most delicate raspberry filling. They treated our big day like it mattered to them too.
The croissants are dangerous. Shatteringly crisp, impossibly buttery, and clearly made by people who care. Add a perfect cortado and the friendliest counter in town and you've got my favorite morning ritual. I'm there far too often, and I regret nothing.
We've ordered from Hearth & Crumb for every office event for years, and they never miss. Everything arrives fresh, beautiful, and absurdly delicious, and the team is a genuine pleasure to work with. They've made me look very good at work more than once.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I order ahead or reserve bread?
Yes, please do — it's the best way to make sure you get exactly what you want, since our most popular bakes sell out fast. Call us or use our online order-ahead, and we'll set your order aside fresh for pickup. Same-day requests are welcome too, subject to what's left.
How far in advance do I need to order a custom cake?
For custom celebration and wedding cakes, we recommend reaching out at least two to three weeks ahead — and more for weddings and large events. For simpler cakes, we can often accommodate a few days' notice. The sooner you reach out, the more we can do for you.
Do you have gluten-free or vegan options?
We bake a rotating selection of vegan treats and a few gluten-friendly options daily, though as a flour-filled bakery we can't guarantee a fully allergen-free environment. Call ahead and we'll tell you exactly what's available that day and help you find something wonderful.
Do you offer catering?
We do, and we love it. From breakfast pastry spreads and dessert tables to fresh bread for restaurants and events, we cater orders of all sizes. Reach out with your date, headcount, and what you have in mind, and we'll put together something delicious.
What time should I come for the best selection?
Morning is magic — we open at 7am with the fullest case, and the croissants and morning buns are at their absolute peak. Popular loaves and pastries can sell out by midday, so early birds genuinely get the best of it. That said, we bake all day, so there's usually something fresh.
Where are you, and where can I park?
You'll find us right on Church Street in downtown Burlington. There's metered street parking nearby and a public garage a short walk away — and honestly, the smell will guide you in. We can't wait to see you.
