We match the rooflines, the window grids and the trim, choose the wood with you, and build the door in our Santa Rosa shop — then hang it on a quiet, modern opener so it's as easy to live with as it is to look at.

Every door is quoted at a fixed price after a design visit. Starting prices are for a standard two-car door, installed.
Six To Eight Weeks, Four Steps
A Design Visit
We photograph and measure the house, talk about how you use the garage, and bring wood and stain samples to hold up in your own light.
A Drawing With A Price
You see the new door on a photo of the front of your house — with a fixed price — before anything is cut.
Built In The Shop
The door is built, sealed and finished in our Santa Rosa shop. You're welcome to come and see it.
Installed In A Day
The old door comes out, the new one goes up, the opener is tuned for its weight, and we take the old one away.
Five Woods, Five Characters
Western red cedar
Light, stable and naturally weather-resistant. Our most-built door, and the easiest on an opener.
Redwood
Warm red tones that belong in Sonoma County. Reclaimed boards when we can find them.
Mahogany
Dense, dark and formal. A classic on Spanish and Mediterranean houses.
White oak
Tight grain and a pale, modern look. Heavier, so paired with a stronger opener.
Douglas fir
Straight grain that takes paint and stain well. A good value for painted doors.

A Door People Stop To Look At
We restored a 1920s Craftsman and every catalog door looked wrong on it. Aldermoor drew a door from an old photo of the house, and now people stop on the sidewalk to ask about it.
The cedar carriage doors look like they open outward, but they roll up on a regular opener. We picked the stain on samples in our own driveway, in our own light.
They built a plank-and-glass door that lines up exactly with the siding on our modern farmhouse. Eight weeks from drawing to install, as promised.
A Wood Door Is A Ten-Minute Job A Year
Wood needs a little care, and in our sun and coastal fog the south- and west-facing doors need it most. Every door leaves the shop sealed, and we come back each spring to check it if you'd like us to.

Custom Garage Door Questions
How much does a custom wood garage door cost?
Most custom two-car wood doors we build land between about $5,900 and $14,000 installed, depending on the wood, the size, the glass and the hardware. The design visit gives you a fixed price before anything is built.
How long does a custom garage door take?
Six to eight weeks from the approved drawing to installation. The installation itself takes a day.
Do carriage-house doors actually swing open?
They can, but most people choose the look of swing doors on an overhead door that rolls up on a regular opener. It's easier with a car in the driveway and works with your remote.
Is a wood door heavy for an opener?
Heavier than steel, so we size the springs and the opener to the finished door. Cedar is the lightest; oak and mahogany need the strongest setup.
Can you match my front door or my siding?
Yes. We often match a front door, shutters or siding, and can build side gates and trim in the same wood and stain.
Do you work outside Santa Rosa?
Across Sonoma County and into Marin and Napa — Healdsburg, Sebastopol, Sonoma, Windsor and Petaluma are regulars.
