About Allen & Key

You Buy It. We Build It.

There's a special kind of dread that comes with opening a flat-pack box: the mountain of near-identical panels, the sealed bag of a hundred tiny screws and cams and dowels, the wordless instruction booklet, and the sinking realization that this is going to eat your entire afternoon — if you don't strip a screw, install a panel backwards, or end up with a wobbly result and three mystery parts left over. Allen & Key exists so you never have to do that again. Assembling flat-pack and IKEA furniture is genuinely all we do, which means we're fast, we're precise, and we've almost certainly built your exact piece dozens of times before. We know which panels the manual gets confusing, where the cam locks like to slip, and how to get drawers and doors aligned so they actually close flush. We build everything solid and level — beds that don't creak, wardrobes that don't lean, desks that don't wobble — and we bring our own quality tools so nothing gets stripped or over-torqued. Just as importantly, we clean up: all the cardboard, foam, and plastic gets flattened, hauled away, and recycled, so you're left with finished furniture and an empty, tidy room instead of a recycling nightmare. We assemble everything from a single bookshelf to an entire apartment's worth of furniture, a full office fit-out, or an elaborate backyard playset, and because it's our specialty we're quick — most jobs are done in a single visit, and same-day service is often available. We're insured, friendly, on time, and we charge a fair, clear price up front. Whether you're moving in, furnishing an office, or just staring at a box you regret buying, hand it to us. You bought it; let us build it — and get your weekend back.

Moving & Office Fit-Outs

Moving or Furnishing? Don't Build It Yourself.

Two moments in life produce the most flat-pack misery, and they're exactly the moments you have the least time and energy to spare: moving house, and furnishing an office. We take both off your plate entirely. If you're moving, we can carefully disassemble your existing furniture — beds, wardrobes, desks, shelving — keeping every piece of hardware labeled and bagged with its item so nothing goes missing, then reassemble all of it at your new place, level and solid, once you've moved in. No stripped screws from being taken apart and rebuilt in a hurry, no wobbly bed frame in your new bedroom, no bag of anonymous bolts you're afraid to throw away. And if you're setting up or expanding an office, we handle full fit-outs: desks, standing desks, ergonomic chairs, filing cabinets, storage, shelving, and conference tables, assembled quickly and correctly — often over a weekend or overnight so your team walks into a ready-to-work space instead of losing days building furniture instead of doing their jobs. For businesses, that's real money saved; asking your staff to assemble a dozen desks is slow, uneven, and a waste of what you actually hired them for. In both cases you get the same Allen & Key promise: fast because it's our specialty, everything built solid and level, all packaging hauled away and recycled, insured and careful with your space, and a clear price agreed up front. We coordinate around your move date or your office schedule, work efficiently, and leave you with finished, functional furniture and a clean room. Moving and furnishing are stressful enough — let the furniture part be the one thing you don't have to think about.

  • Careful disassembly & reassembly for moves
  • Hardware labeled & bagged — nothing lost
  • Full office fit-outs, often overnight or weekend
  • Insured, fast, and packaging always hauled away
Customer Reviews

Seattle on Allen & Key

I ordered a whole bedroom set from IKEA and completely underestimated it — three flat boxes turned into a mountain of panels and a bag of a hundred tiny screws. Allen & Key showed up the next morning, built the bed, the wardrobe with sliding doors, and two nightstands in about two hours, all rock-solid and perfectly level, and hauled every scrap of cardboard away. I genuinely could not have done it, and definitely not without a meltdown. Worth every dollar for my sanity alone. I will never assemble flat-pack furniture myself again.

We moved into a new office and needed a dozen desks, chairs, filing cabinets, and a big conference table assembled fast so we could open Monday. Allen & Key handled the entire fit-out over a weekend — everything built correctly, drawers aligned, nothing wobbly, and all the packaging removed and recycled. They were professional, quick, and clearly do this constantly. It saved our team days of frustration and let us focus on actually launching. For any business furnishing an office, do not have your staff build it — call these folks.

I bought my kid an elaborate outdoor playset and opened the box to a two-hundred-page manual and a small hardware store's worth of bolts. Allen & Key built the whole thing — slide, swings, climbing wall, the works — in an afternoon, anchored it properly and safely, and my kids were playing on it by dinner. It's absolutely solid. They also assembled our trampoline the same visit. Friendly, careful, and fast. They turned what would have been a ruined weekend into a five-minute phone call. Cannot recommend them enough.

Good Questions

Assembly, Answered

How much does furniture assembly cost?

We price by what you're building rather than running a vague hourly meter, so you get a clear, fair number up front and there are no surprises. The cost depends on the pieces and their complexity: a simple bookshelf or nightstand is very inexpensive, while larger or fiddlier items like sliding-door wardrobes, storage beds, elaborate playsets, or a full office fit-out are priced accordingly — but always as a clear quote you approve before we start. The best way to get an accurate price is to simply tell us what you need assembled, ideally with the brand and item name or a link, and we can usually quote you right over the phone or from the product details. Because assembly is our specialty and we're fast, we're often more affordable than people expect, especially once you factor in the value of your time, the tools you'd need, and the cardboard-mountain cleanup we include. Multiple items in one visit are more economical than one-offs, so it's worth batching a room's worth together. Whatever the job, the price we quote is the price you pay, and it includes building everything solid and level plus hauling away and recycling all the packaging.

Do I need to be home, and how long will it take?

Yes, we do ask that you or another adult be home to let us in, confirm where each piece goes, and do a quick walkthrough at the end, but beyond that you don't need to do anything — no lifting, no finding the manual, no handing us screws. You're welcome to work, relax, or run errands around the house while we build; most clients are pleasantly surprised how quickly and quietly it goes. As for timing, because assembly is all we do and we've almost certainly built your exact pieces before, we're much faster than a DIY attempt: a single item like a desk or dresser is often done in well under an hour, a bedroom set in a couple of hours, and even a large office fit-out or elaborate playset is typically a single visit, sometimes with two of us to speed it along. When you book, we'll give you an estimated time window based on your specific list so you can plan your day. We always aim to arrive on time, work efficiently without cutting corners, and leave your furniture solid and your room tidy — and we'll never leave a job half-built.

Will you take away the boxes and packaging?

Yes, absolutely, and it's one of the most appreciated parts of what we do — because the packaging is genuinely the second half of the flat-pack nightmare. A few boxes of furniture generate a startling amount of cardboard, foam blocks, plastic wrap, and little bags, and breaking it all down and getting rid of it is a chore in itself, especially if you don't have a vehicle or the space to store it until recycling day. As part of every assembly, we flatten and gather up all of the packaging and haul it away, recycling what can be recycled. You're left with just your finished, ready-to-use furniture and a clean, empty-of-clutter room — no cardboard mountain in the hallway, no trips to the recycling center. If for some reason you'd like to keep the original packaging (for example if you might return an item), just let us know and we'll leave it neatly stacked for you instead. Otherwise, consider it gone. This packaging haul-away is included in our price, not an add-on, because to us a job isn't finished until the room is tidy — assembling your furniture and leaving you with a pile of trash wouldn't be doing the job right.

Can you assemble furniture from any store, not just IKEA?

Yes — we assemble flat-pack and ready-to-assemble furniture from essentially every brand and retailer, not just IKEA. IKEA is the most famous and we build enormous amounts of it, so we know their cam-lock systems, their manuals, and their quirks inside out, but we're just as at home with Wayfair, Amazon, Target, Walmart, Costco, West Elm, Crate & Barrel, office-furniture brands, outdoor playset and trampoline makers, gym equipment, cribs and nursery furniture, and countless others. The reality is that most flat-pack furniture uses similar fasteners and construction principles, and after building thousands of pieces we can quickly figure out anything new — so even if it's an obscure brand or a piece we've never seen, we'll assemble it correctly and solidly. This is especially handy when you've furnished a room or an office from several different stores and just want one team to build all of it in a single visit rather than coordinating multiple people. When you book, just tell us the items and brands (a link or the item name is perfect) so we can plan the right time and tools, and then leave the rest to us. Whatever the box says on the outside, we've very likely built it before — and if we haven't, we'll build it right anyway.

Staring at a box you regret buying?

Hand it to Allen & Key. We build your flat-pack and IKEA furniture solid and level, haul away the packaging, and give you your weekend back — often same day, across greater Seattle.
