Why Overhead

Mounted Safe, Balanced, and Silent

What twelve years hanging fixtures gets you.

Safely Mounted

Fans go on fan-rated boxes and secure framing; heavy fixtures get reinforced support — so nothing sags, loosens, or comes down. Ever.

No Wobble, No Hum

We balance every fan so it runs dead silent with zero wobble, and wire fixtures cleanly so there's no buzz or flicker.

Correctly Wired

Switches, remotes, dimmers, and multi-fixture circuits wired right the first time — safe, code-conscious, and working exactly as intended.

We Do the Tall Stuff

Two-story foyers, vaulted ceilings, and heavy chandeliers need the right equipment and experience. We have both — you keep your feet on the ground.

One Visit

A single fan or a whole home of fixtures — most jobs are done in one tidy visit, with evening slots for people who work.

Insured & Tidy

Fully insured, floors protected, old fixtures hauled away, and a complete clean-up. A fair, clear price agreed up front.

About Overhead

The Stuff You Don't Want to Do Yourself

Hanging a ceiling fan or a heavy light fixture is one of those jobs that looks simple in the store and turns into an afternoon of frustration, uncertainty, and mild danger on a ladder. You're working overhead with electricity, often on a wobbly step stool reaching above your head; the existing box might not be rated to hold a fan's weight and vibration; the wiring might not be what you expect; and getting a fan perfectly balanced so it doesn't wobble or hum is genuinely fiddly. Do it wrong and you get a fan that shakes, a fixture that sags, a buzzing dimmer, or worse. That's exactly the stuff Overhead does all day, every day, and doing it well is the entire point. We've installed over seventeen hundred fans and fixtures across Nashville in twelve years, so we know how to do it right and fast: we mount fans on proper fan-rated boxes and secure them to solid framing so they'll never loosen or fall; we reinforce support for heavy chandeliers; we wire switches, remotes, dimmers, and multi-fixture setups correctly and safely; and we balance every fan so it runs dead silent with zero wobble, which is the difference most people can't achieve themselves. We also handle the work most homeowners simply can't or shouldn't attempt — the tall, heavy installs in two-story foyers and vaulted rooms that require real lift equipment and experience at height. Beyond the technical side, we make it easy: we show up on time, protect your floors and furniture, haul away and dispose of your old fixtures, clean up completely, and quote a clear, fair price before we start. Whether it's a single bedroom fan, a statement chandelier for your entry, a whole home of dated fixtures you want modernized, or recessed lighting to brighten and update a room, we'll handle it safely and cleanly in a single visit. Skip the ladder, the guesswork, and the wobble — book an install and let us take care of everything overhead.

Whole-Home Lighting

Update Every Room's Light in a Day

Lighting is one of the highest-impact and most underrated ways to update a home, and it's some of our favorite work. Dated flush-mount 'boob lights,' yellowed fixtures, harsh single-source lighting, and rooms that are simply too dim make a whole home feel older and less pleasant than it needs to — and swapping them for modern fixtures, adding recessed lighting for even brightness, and putting everything on dimmers can transform how a space looks and feels, often more dramatically than paint or furniture, for a surprisingly reasonable cost. We do this all the time, room by room or whole-home in a single efficient visit. We'll replace every tired fixture with the modern ones you choose, install recessed can or LED downlights spaced and placed for even, flattering, energy-efficient light, hang statement pieces like a dining chandelier or kitchen pendants, add ceiling fans where you want air movement, and put it all on dimmers and smart switches so you can dial the mood from bright and functional to warm and relaxed. Because we handle the mounting, the wiring, the switches, and the balancing correctly and safely, you get a cohesive, properly-working lighting scheme rather than a patchwork of DIY attempts — and we haul away and dispose of all the old fixtures so you're left with just the beautiful new result and a clean home. Whether you're refreshing a single dark room, modernizing a condo full of dated fixtures, lighting a new addition, or finally getting that entry chandelier hung, we'll plan it with you, give you a clear price, and get it all done in one tidy visit. Good lighting changes everything about how a home feels; let us handle every fixture overhead and light your whole house beautifully.

  • Every dated fixture swapped for modern ones

  • Dimmers & smart switches to set any mood

Customer Reviews

Nashville on Overhead

I bought ceiling fans for three bedrooms and quickly realized I had no idea what I was doing — old boxes that might not hold the weight, wiring I didn't trust, and a wobble I couldn't fix. Overhead came out, installed all three on proper fan-rated boxes, wired the remotes and wall switches, and balanced them so they run dead silent with zero wobble. They also swapped a dining chandelier while they were here. Fast, clean, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. No wobble, no hum, no worries. I'll never try to hang a fan myself again.

We had a gorgeous but heavy chandelier for our two-story entry and no way to safely hang it at that height. Overhead brought the right equipment, reinforced the box, and installed it perfectly — level, secure, and beautiful. They handled the tall ladder work I would never have attempted and cleaned up completely. They also added dimmers so we can set the mood. Professional, careful, and reasonably priced for specialized work. It's the centerpiece of our home now and I have total peace of mind that it's mounted safely. Absolutely recommend for anything overhead.

Our whole condo had dated flush-mount lights and I wanted recessed lighting and a couple of modern fixtures. Overhead replaced everything in a single day — installed the recessed cans, hung new fixtures, added dimmer switches, and made it all work together beautifully. The place feels completely transformed and so much brighter. They were tidy, punctual, explained the options, and the price was fair. What I love is they do exactly this kind of work all the time, so it was smooth and stress-free. My go-to for anything on the ceiling from now on.

Good Questions

Fan & Fixture Install, Answered

Do I need to buy the fan or fixture, or can you provide it?

Either way works, whatever's easiest for you. Most of our customers have already picked out and purchased the specific fans, fixtures, chandeliers, or recessed lights they want — often because choosing the look is the fun part — and we simply install what you've bought, making sure it's mounted safely and wired correctly. If you go this route, just have the items on hand for your appointment, and if you're unsure whether something you're eyeing is a good fit or will work with your ceiling and wiring, feel free to run it by us first and we'll advise. Alternatively, if you'd rather not deal with the shopping, we're glad to help you source the right fixtures and hardware for your space, your ceiling height, and the look and budget you're after, which takes the guesswork out of matching a fixture to the job. We can also advise on the technical must-haves you might not think about — like making sure a ceiling fan goes on a fan-rated box, whether your ceiling needs reinforcement for a heavy chandelier, and what kind of dimmer works with your bulbs. When you book, just tell us whether you have your fixtures already or want help choosing, and we'll plan accordingly. Our goal is a beautiful, safely-installed result, and we're happy to be as involved in the selection as you'd like or to simply expertly install exactly what you've chosen.

Can you replace a light fixture with a ceiling fan (or vice versa)?

Yes, and it's a very common request — but there's an important safety detail that's exactly why you want a professional to do it. Replacing a standard light fixture with a ceiling fan is not always a simple swap, because ceiling fans are much heavier than light fixtures and they move, creating vibration and stress that a standard electrical box is not designed to handle. A fan must be mounted to a fan-rated electrical box that is securely fastened to the building's framing; installing a fan on a regular light box is a real safety hazard that can lead to the fan loosening or even falling over time. When we replace a light with a fan, we check the existing box and, if it's not fan-rated (which it usually isn't), we install a proper fan-rated box with the right support before hanging the fan — often we can do this from below without cutting a big hole in your ceiling. We also handle any wiring differences, such as adding separate control for the fan and the light or wiring in a remote. Going the other way, replacing a fan with a light fixture, is generally straightforward. We'll assess your specific situation, make sure everything is mounted to the correct, safe support, wire it properly for how you want to control it, and balance the fan if that's what you're installing. This is exactly the kind of overhead swap where the difference between a DIY attempt and a professional install is real safety, so we're glad to handle it correctly for you.

Can you install heavy chandeliers or fixtures in high, two-story spaces?

Yes — high and heavy installs are a specialty of ours and some of the work we're most often called for, precisely because they're the jobs homeowners can't or shouldn't do themselves. Two-story foyers, vaulted ceilings, and grand staircases are beautiful places for a statement chandelier, but installing one there involves two serious challenges: working safely at significant height, which requires proper tall ladders or lift equipment and real experience (a fall from that height is life-changing, and it's simply not worth risking), and supporting the weight of a heavy fixture, which requires a properly reinforced, correctly-rated mounting point secured to the structure so a heavy chandelier can never come loose. We have the right equipment to reach and work safely at those heights, and the experience and hardware to reinforce the support and hang even very heavy fixtures perfectly level and completely secure. We'll also handle wiring in dimmers or controls and, where relevant, discuss whether a fixture on a motorized lift system (which lowers for cleaning and bulb changes) makes sense for a very high install. Beyond chandeliers, this applies to any high-ceiling fixture or fan. So if you've been putting off hanging something beautiful in a tall space because it feels impossible or dangerous, that's exactly what we're here for — we'll get it up there safely, level, secure, and gorgeous, while you keep both feet firmly on the ground.

How long does it take, and do you clean up and remove old fixtures?

Most installations are quick, and the vast majority of jobs are completed in a single visit. A single ceiling fan or light fixture swap is often done in under an hour; a chandelier or a high install takes a bit longer due to the reinforcement and equipment involved; and even a whole-home lighting update with multiple fixtures, recessed lights, and dimmers is typically a single efficient visit, sometimes with two of us to speed it along. When you book, we'll give you an estimated time based on your specific list so you can plan your day. As for cleanup and old fixtures: yes, absolutely, we take care of all of it. We protect your floors and furniture before we start, and when we're finished we clean up thoroughly — no debris, packaging, or mess left behind. Crucially, we also remove and dispose of your old fixtures and fans for you, so you're not left with a dusty old chandelier to figure out how to get rid of; we haul them away as part of the job. You're left with just your beautiful new fixtures, properly installed and working, and a clean, tidy space. This full-service approach — protect, install correctly, balance and test, remove the old, and clean up — is standard on every job, because to us the work isn't done until your space looks better than when we arrived, with nothing for you to deal with afterward. Just tell us what you'd like installed and we'll handle everything, start to finish, in one tidy visit.
