What's the difference between live-in and 24-hour care?
Live-in care is one caregiver staying in the home, with a private room and an eight-hour sleep break. 24-hour shift care is two or three caregivers working awake shifts, so someone is always up. We'll recommend the safer option after the home visit.
How much does live-in care cost?
Live-in care starts from $395 a day. 24-hour shift care is billed hourly from $36 an hour. Your exact rate is agreed in writing before care starts.
Does the caregiver need their own room?
For live-in care, yes — a private bedroom with a bed and somewhere to keep their things. Shift care doesn't need one.
What happens when a caregiver is sick or on vacation?
Someone from your regular team covers, or a back-up caregiver who has already been introduced. The 24/7 care line arranges it.
Does Medicare pay for 24-hour home care?
Generally no — Medicare doesn't pay for ongoing non-medical care at home. Families usually pay privately, use long-term care insurance or, for some veterans, benefits toward care at home.
