Farmhouse With Soul, Not Shiplap
Fieldstone & Oak was founded on a small rebellion: against the 'modern farmhouse' that's become a formula — shiplap on every wall, a barn door on every opening, the same eight things from the same big-box aisle. We love farmhouse and modern-rustic design, but we love it done with soul. For twelve years we've designed warm, honest, characterful homes across Nashville and Middle Tennessee, from restored 1890s farmhouses in Leiper's Fork to new builds in Franklin that feel like they've stood a century. Our work is grounded in real materials — reclaimed and natural wood, honest stone, genuine texture, and the warm Southern light we plan every room around. We keep the character and add the comfort, so a home feels rustic and refined at once, gathered rather than decorated, and true to the land it sits on. The result is a home that feels warm the moment you walk in and only more so the longer you stay — with not a hint of kitsch in sight.

Three Things We Believe
For a home that's warm, honest, and full of soul, families across Middle Tennessee trust Fieldstone & Oak.
Character Over Formula
We never reach for the farmhouse checklist. We design for genuine warmth and soul, unique to your home and land.
Honest Materials Only
Reclaimed wood, real stone, natural texture — materials that are true, age beautifully, and feel good to touch.
Rustic Meets Refined
Warm and characterful, yet elevated and considered. That balance is the whole art, and it's what we do best.

Warmth You Can Feel in the Grain
The difference between a farmhouse home with soul and one built from a formula lives in the materials, and in the honesty of them. That's where we spend our care. Reclaimed oak with a hundred years of story in its grain; fieldstone laid by hand; iron that's forged, not stamped; linen and wool and leather that only get better with use. These are the things you touch every day and feel even when you're not thinking about them, and they're what make a room warm in a way that no amount of trendy décor can fake. We choose them for how they age and how they feel, we plan every room around the warm Southern light that brings them alive, and we let the character of the house and the land it sits on lead the way. The result is a home that feels honest, gathered, and genuinely lived-in from the first day — rustic and refined at once, and warm right down to the grain. That warmth is the whole point, and it can't be bought off a shelf.
- ✓Reclaimed wood with real story in the grain
- ✓Hand-laid stone and forged iron
- ✓Natural textiles that improve with use
- ✓Rooms planned around the warm Southern light
Words From Our Clients
We wanted our new build in Franklin to feel like it had always been there — warm, honest, full of character, and not like every other 'modern farmhouse' with shiplap slapped on every wall. Fieldstone & Oak nailed exactly that. Real reclaimed wood, honest stone, beautiful natural light, and rooms that feel collected and lived-in from day one. It's the warmest, most welcoming home we've ever had, and every single guest wants to move in.
Modern farmhouse gets done to death, but Fieldstone & Oak do it with genuine soul and restraint. They renovated our 1890s farmhouse in Leiper's Fork with such respect for its bones — keeping the character, adding warmth and function, and choosing materials that feel authentic instead of trendy. It's rustic and refined at the same time, which is a hard balance, and they walk it beautifully.
Fieldstone & Oak have the rare gift of making a home feel warm and characterful without a hint of kitsch. Our Belle Meade home is full of natural wood, honest materials, and cozy, gathered rooms that our whole family lives in and loves. They managed the entire project beautifully and delivered a home that feels timeless and true. Twelve years of doing this right really shows.

Farmhouse Design Questions, Answered
Isn't 'modern farmhouse' overdone?
The formula version is — shiplap on every wall, a barn door on every opening, the same big-box pieces. That's exactly what we avoid. We design farmhouse and modern-rustic homes with genuine soul: real materials, character drawn from the house and land, and warmth that feels earned rather than applied. Done with restraint and honest materials, farmhouse design is timeless. Done as a checklist, it dates fast. We do it the timeless way.
Do you work on old farmhouses and new builds?
Both, and we love each. With period farmhouses we renovate sensitively — keeping the bones and character, adding comfort and function, and choosing materials that honor the age. With new builds we design homes that feel like they've always stood there, using real, honest materials and thoughtful proportions rather than a builder-grade version of the look. Either way, the goal is a home that feels warm, true, and rooted.
What does full-service design include?
Everything from the first walkthrough to the final styling: space planning, materials and finishes, custom millwork and cabinetry, kitchen and bath design, furniture and textiles, procurement, trade coordination, and installation. You get one studio holding the whole warm, honest vision and managing every detail, so even a full renovation feels calm and handled from start to finish.
How is your pricing structured?
After an initial consultation we provide a clear proposal — a flat design fee based on scope, plus transparent tracking of all material, furnishing, and construction costs in your budget. For smaller needs we offer hourly consultation. We talk numbers candidly from the first conversation, and we help you invest where the honest materials and craftsmanship matter most, so there are never surprises.
Can you keep it warm without making it kitschy?
That balance is the whole point of what we do. Warmth comes from honest materials, natural light, and gathered, lived-in rooms — not from roosters and 'Live Laugh Love' signs. We layer real wood, stone, and texture with a restrained, elevated hand, so a home feels cozy and characterful yet genuinely refined. Rustic and sophisticated at once is a hard line to walk, and it's exactly the one we're known for.
Do you work beyond Nashville?
Nashville and Middle Tennessee are our home — Franklin, Leiper's Fork, Belle Meade, and the surrounding countryside — and we design throughout the region. For the right project a little further out, we're glad to travel. If you love our work and you're within reach, reach out; there's a good chance we can help.
