Timeless Design for Classic Homes — Interior Design in Boston, MA
Ellery & Hale designs elegant, timeless homes across Boston and New England — rooted in fine antiques, custom millwork, and a deep respect for architecture. Design that honors a home's history and outlives every trend.

A Reverence for Timeless Design
Ellery & Hale was founded on a conviction that has only grown rarer: that a home should be designed to last a lifetime, not a season. For twenty-two years we've created elegant, classic interiors across Boston and New England — for historic townhouses in Beacon Hill, gracious homes in Back Bay, and country estates north of the city. Our work is grounded in the things that endure: fine antiques and bespoke pieces sourced with a discerning eye, custom millwork and cabinetry made by true craftsmen, textiles and finishes of genuine quality, and above all a deep respect for a home's architecture and history. We never chase a trend, because we design for the decades. The result is a home that feels timeless from the day it's finished — elegant, warm, and utterly yours, for as long as you live in it.

Three Principles We Hold To
For a home of genuine, lasting elegance, families across New England trust Ellery & Hale.
Timeless, Never Trendy
We design in the classic idiom that endures, so your home looks as beautiful decades from now as it does today.
Quality You Can Feel
Fine antiques, true-quality textiles, and real craftsmanship. Nothing off-the-shelf, nothing that won't last.
The Architecture Leads
We honor a home's history and bones in every decision, so the finished rooms feel as though they always belonged.

In the Details, the Difference
The elegance of a truly classic home lives in the details most people never consciously see. It's the profile of a crown moulding, the hand-planed edge of a paneled wall, the exact drape of a silk curtain, the patina of a well-chosen antique. These are the things that separate a home that is decorated from one that is genuinely designed, and they are the heart of our craft. We commission millwork from makers who still work by hand, source textiles and antiques from relationships built over decades, and obsess over the finishes and proportions that give a room its quiet authority. The result is a home that feels considered in every square inch — effortless from across the room, and richer the closer you look. That is the difference twenty-two years of craft makes.
- ✓Hand-crafted millwork and cabinetry
- ✓Antiques and textiles sourced over decades
- ✓Considered proportion, finish, and light
- ✓Elegance you feel in every detail
Words From Our Clients
We own a Beacon Hill townhouse from 1847, and we wanted it restored and furnished in a way that honored its history without feeling like a museum. Ellery & Hale understood that balance perfectly. Their eye for antiques, their custom millwork, and their respect for the architecture produced rooms that feel like they've always been there — only better. Twenty-two years of experience is evident in every decision.
Ellery & Hale designed our Back Bay home with a level of taste and craftsmanship you rarely see anymore. Nothing was off-the-shelf; everything was considered, sourced, and often custom-made. The result is elegant, warm, and utterly timeless — the kind of home that will look just as beautiful in thirty years. We could not be more delighted.
After interviewing several designers, Ellery & Hale stood apart for their genuine reverence for classic design and their impeccable sourcing. They furnished our Wellesley home with beautiful antiques and bespoke pieces, managed every trade flawlessly, and were a pleasure throughout. It's the most elegant home we've ever had, and it feels completely like us.
Interior Design Questions, Answered
Do you only design in a traditional style?
Classic and traditional design is our specialty and our love, but we're not rigid about it — many of our homes blend timeless bones with a lighter, more transitional hand where a client prefers it. What we always bring is a reverence for quality, proportion, and architecture. If you want a home that feels elegant and enduring rather than of-the-moment, we're likely a wonderful fit, whatever the exact style.
Do you work with historic and period homes?
Frequently, and it's some of our favorite work. Boston and New England are full of extraordinary period homes, and we bring genuine sensitivity to restoring and furnishing them — honoring original details, sourcing sympathetic antiques, and commissioning millwork that matches the era. We improve how a historic home lives without erasing what makes it special.
What does full-service interior design include?
Everything from the first walkthrough to the final placement: space planning, architecture and millwork, sourcing of antiques and bespoke furniture, textiles and window treatments, trade and order coordination, and final installation and styling. You get one studio holding the entire vision, and a process we manage end to end so even a demanding project feels calm.
How is your pricing structured?
After an initial consultation we provide a clear proposal with a flat design fee based on scope, plus transparent tracking of all furnishing, antique, and construction costs in your budget. For smaller needs we offer hourly consultation. We discuss numbers candidly from the first conversation, so there are never surprises.
How long does a project take?
Quality and true craftsmanship take time. A furnishing project might run a few months; a full renovation with custom millwork and sourced antiques often runs nine months to well over a year. We give you a realistic timeline up front and keep you informed at every stage. The result is always worth the patience.
Do you work outside Boston?
Boston is our home — Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Cambridge, Brookline — but we regularly design homes throughout New England, from the North Shore to the Cape to country estates further afield. If you love our work and you're within reach of the region, we'd be glad to talk.
