Sustainable Landscaping in Boulder, CO
Beautiful landscapes that use half the water and give back to the land — water-wise native planting, organic care, permeable hardscape, and habitat gardens designed for the way we should live on the Front Range.

Boulder's Regenerative Landscape Studio
A conventional landscape takes — it drinks water we don't have on the Front Range, leans on chemicals, sheds rainwater into the storm drain, and gives little back to the soil or the wild things around it. A regenerative landscape does the opposite: it uses less, builds soil, holds water, and comes alive with pollinators and birds — and it can be every bit as beautiful. Terra Renewal was built entirely on that idea. For twelve years we've designed and built landscapes across Boulder County that are gorgeous and genuinely sustainable: water-wise and native planting that thrives on a fraction of the irrigation, permeable paths and patios that soak the rain into the ground instead of shedding it, organic soil-building with compost instead of a bag of synthetic fertilizer, and habitat gardens that turn a yard into a living ecosystem. We design for the whole system — water, soil, and wildlife — not just the day-one photo, because a landscape that works with the land instead of against it is the only kind that stays beautiful, cheaply, for the long haul. The result is a yard that costs less to keep, looks alive rather than merely tidy, and quietly does right by the place it's part of.
- ✓Uses half the water of a conventional yard
- ✓Native, organic & permeable by design
- ✓Builds soil & habitat, not chemical dependence
- ✓Beautiful and regenerative, not one or the other
Landscaping That Gives Back
Water, soil, and habitat — designed together into a landscape that's beautiful and regenerative.
Boulder Landscapes That Give Back

Why Sustainable Is Simply Better
It Costs Less to Keep
A water-wise, native, organic landscape uses far less water, no chemicals, and less labor than a conventional lawn — so the regenerative choice is also the cheaper one to own, month after month, for as long as you have it.
It Thrives Instead of Struggles
Planting suited to the Colorado climate and healthy soil doesn't fight its conditions — it flourishes on them. A sustainable landscape looks more alive and more beautiful precisely because it's working with the land, not against it.
It Gives Back
Every water-wise, habitat-rich landscape holds water in the ground, builds soil, and feeds the pollinators and birds whose world is shrinking. Your yard becomes a small act of repair — beautiful to you, and good for the place you live.

The Landscape That Uses Less and Gives More
There's an old assumption that a beautiful yard and a responsible one are at odds — that you have to choose between a lush landscape and a light footprint. That was never really true, and on the Front Range it's exactly backwards. The most beautiful landscapes here are the ones that belong here: native and water-wise planting that thrives through drought and looks stunning doing it, soil so alive it needs no chemicals, hardscape that drinks the rain, and gardens humming with the bees and birds that a sterile lawn drives away. A regenerative landscape isn't a sacrifice of beauty for virtue; it's more beautiful, more alive, and cheaper to keep than the thirsty, chemical-fed yard it replaces. It saves you money every month, it makes your yard a place of genuine life rather than mere neatness, and it quietly does right by a place — Boulder, the Front Range, the shrinking wild — that could use the help. Terra Renewal designs for all of it at once, because using less and giving more isn't a compromise. It's just the better landscape.
- ✓Beauty and sustainability aren't a trade-off
- ✓More alive than a lawn, and cheaper to keep
- ✓Saves water & money, every month
- ✓A small act of repair for the Front Range

Sustainable Landscaping FAQs
Does a sustainable landscape have to look wild or sparse?
Not at all — that's a common misconception. A well-designed sustainable landscape is lush, layered, and gorgeous; it just achieves that with native and water-wise plants, healthy soil, and thoughtful design instead of thirsty turf and chemicals. Done right, it's more beautiful and more alive than a conventional yard, not less. The 'sparse' look comes from bad design, which is exactly what we don't do.
How much water will I actually save?
For most Front Range yards, a water-wise, native landscape uses 50% or more less water than a conventional lawn — often much more. Between smart design, climate-appropriate planting, efficient irrigation, and permeable hardscape that keeps rain on site, the savings are substantial and show up on your water bill every single month, especially through Colorado's dry summers.
What makes a landscape 'regenerative'?
Regenerative means it gives back more than it takes: it builds healthy, living soil rather than depleting it; it holds rainwater on site and recharges the ground instead of shedding runoff; it supports pollinators and wildlife instead of driving them away; and it needs fewer chemical and water inputs over time, not more. In short, the landscape improves the health of the land it's part of — while looking beautiful and costing you less to maintain.
Can you convert my existing lawn?
Absolutely — lawn conversion is one of our most popular and impactful projects. We remove or reduce the turf, build healthy soil, and replace it with water-wise native planting, permeable hardscape, and habitat features. You trade a thirsty, chemical-dependent, high-maintenance lawn for a beautiful, living landscape that uses far less water and gives back — and we can do it all at once or phase it over time.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — Terra Renewal is a licensed Colorado landscape contractor (#LC-49820) and fully insured. Sustainable landscaping involves design, planting, hardscape, and soil and water work done thoughtfully, so licensed, insured, principled work is exactly what ensures your landscape is beautiful, functional, and genuinely regenerative for the long term.
