Does xeriscaping mean my yard will just be rocks?
Not at all — that's the biggest misconception. A well-designed xeriscape is a living, blooming, four-season landscape: native grasses, wildflowers, agave and yucca, and flowering shrubs, set among warm stone and boulders. It uses far less water than a lawn, but it's full of texture, color, and life. A barren field of gravel is xeriscape done badly; we design the opposite.
How much water will I actually save?
For most Albuquerque yards, a xeriscape uses around 60% less water than a traditional lawn — often more. Turf is the thirstiest thing in a high-desert yard, and replacing it with native planting on efficient drip cuts your irrigation dramatically. The savings show up on your water bill every month, and they only grow as water gets more precious.
Is a xeriscape really low-maintenance?
Yes — that's one of its best qualities. Once established, native and drought-tolerant plants need little water and little care: no mowing, no constant watering, minimal pruning. Will it look good year-round?
Designed well, absolutely.
