A Laundromat You Do Not Mind Sitting In

Dunmoss was a corner grocery before the Halvers family gutted it and put in the first twenty machines. Nineteen years later it is still a family business, still on the same corner, and still run on the principle that people should not have to spend their Saturday somewhere unpleasant. The floors get mopped twice a day. The lint traps get cleared between every cycle. The lights are bright enough to read under, the chairs face the windows, and there is an attendant on the floor from open to close — not behind glass, on the floor, making change and fixing the machine that ate your quarter.

  • Machines serviced on a schedule, not when they break
  • Restrooms and a water fountain, both cleaned daily
  • Free wifi and outlets at every seat along the window
  • Change machine, vending and detergent at the front

How A Wash Works

01

Load And Pay

Pick a machine size, load it, then tap your card or drop quarters in. The change machine takes bills and cards.

02

Wash

About 28 minutes for a normal cycle, 34 for heavy. Machines show the time left on the front panel.

03

Dry

Grab a cart, move your load to a dryer. 25¢ buys six minutes; most loads need 30 to 40.

04

Fold And Go

Twelve folding tables along the back. Or hand it to the attendant and let us fold it for you.

Why People Drive Past Other Places

Three Reasons Regulars Come Here

01

The Machines Work

A technician is in every second week whether anything is broken or not. If a machine takes your money, the attendant refunds it out of the drawer on the spot — no form, no phone number to call.

02

Somebody Is Always Here

From six in the morning to eleven at night there is a person on the floor. That is why the place stays clean, why nothing goes missing, and why it is somewhere you can send your teenager alone.

03

You Can Do It All At Once

Twenty-two 20 lb machines and six of 60 lb and up. Nobody waits for a machine, and a whole week of family laundry goes through in one sitting instead of five.

Haven't Got Two Hours?

Drop It Off And We'll Fold It

Ten pound minimum, $1.65 a pound, washed in its own machine and folded on the table rather than tipped into a bag.

Same Day Before 11am

Dropped before eleven in the morning is almost always ready the same afternoon.

Washed On Its Own

Your load runs alone from wash to dry — never mixed with anyone else's.

Your Detergent

Hypoallergenic or fragrance-free on request, at no extra charge.

Text When It's Ready

We message you the moment it's folded and on the shelf under your name.

Bring The Load Your Machine Can't Take

The 60 and 80 lb washers handle a king comforter, a winter coat run, or a month of sports kit in one cycle. Wash it here once and you will stop paying to have it done elsewhere.

What Regulars Say

I can do four loads at once here and be out in ninety minutes. The big machines take a king comforter and two blankets together, which my machine at home never could.
Rosalind FeeneyOld South End
It is clean, it is bright, and there is always somebody working. My daughter does her homework at the counter while I wash. That is the whole reason we drive past two other places.
Darnell OchoaRegular since 2019
I dropped a duvet off on Saturday morning and picked it up folded that afternoon. Eighteen dollars. I have stopped fighting with it at home.

Questions We Get At The Counter

Do I need quarters, or can I pay by card?

Either. Every machine takes quarters, and every machine also takes the reloadable Dunmoss card, which you can top up with cash or a debit card at the front. The change machine by the door takes bills and cards and gives quarters.

What time is the last wash?

We stop starting washers at 9:30pm so every load can finish drying before we close at 11pm. Dryers run until 10:45pm. If you arrive after 9:30 the attendant will tell you honestly whether you have time.

How much does it cost to do a full week of family laundry?

Most families of four use one 40 lb washer at $6.50 and about 35 minutes of dryer time at around $1.50 — so roughly eight dollars, plus detergent. Splitting the same laundry across small machines usually costs more, not less.

Can you wash a king comforter?

Yes — that is what the 80 lb machines at the back are for. A king comforter washes and dries properly in one, which a home machine cannot do because it cannot get the water through it. Bring it in or drop it off and we will do it for you.

Is there somewhere to sit while I wait?

Yes. There are twenty seats along the front windows with power outlets and free wifi, two televisions, folding tables, and a vending machine. Plenty of people work or do homework here for the hour.

Do you take commercial laundry — salons, restaurants, short-term rentals?

We do. Bulk loads run through the 60 and 80 lb machines and can be set up as a standing weekly drop-off with an invoice at month end. Call and ask for the manager and we will work out a rate by the pound.

Drop Off, Ask A Price, Or Set Up A Bulk Account

Send this and we will call you back the same day we open. For anything urgent the phone is quicker — there is always somebody on the floor.
