Why It Feels Different

Five Small Decisions

No Coins Anywhere

No change machine, no jammed slot, no hunting for quarters on a Sunday.

You Can See Availability

From the parking lot or from your sofa, before you load the trunk.

Automatic Refunds

A machine that fails credits your card without you asking anyone.

Quiet Floor

Acoustic panels and a sound-rated dryer bank. You can take a call in here.

Power At Every Seat

Sixteen seats, sixteen outlets, and wifi that holds a video call.

Cleaned Hourly

Floor, folding tables and lint traps, on a schedule posted on the wall.

Front Street Since 2021

Built Five Years Ago, Not Nineteen Eighty

Most laundromats are older than the people using them, and it shows in the machines, the lighting and the change machine that eats a dollar in four. Quillon was fitted out from an empty shell in 2021, so every decision could be made once and made properly.

01

Contactless Designed In

Tap-to-pay was specified with the machines rather than bolted onto coin hardware afterwards, which is why there is no change machine and nothing to jam.

02

A Floor That Isn't Loud

Acoustic panels and a sound-rated dryer bank, because a laundromat does not have to sound like a workshop. Quiet enough to take a call, which several regulars do.

03

Power At Every Seat

Sixteen seats, sixteen outlets and wifi that holds a video call. If you are going to wait ninety minutes, you should be able to use them.

First Visit

Four Taps, Start To Finish

01

Check The Board

From your phone before you leave, or the screen by the door when you arrive.

02

Tap To Start

Bank card, phone or the Quillon card. The machine starts on the tap — nothing to insert.

03

Get A Text

When the wash finishes, and again when the dryer does. Go and do something else.

04

Fold And Go

Ten stainless tables along the window, or hand it to the counter and let us fold it.

What Tap-To-Pay Actually Changes

Three Things, In Order Of How Much They Matter

01

You Stop Planning Around Quarters

The single most common reason people put laundry off another day is not having change. Removing coins entirely removes that decision, which is why our Sunday evenings are busier than anyone expected.

02

Failures Fix Themselves

A coin machine that fails needs an attendant, a float and an argument. A card machine that fails issues a credit automatically and logs itself for service. Most of our customers have never had to ask for anything.

03

The Floor Can Be Honest With You

Because every machine reports its own state, the availability board is real rather than a guess. It also means we know which machines are struggling before they break, which is the unglamorous reason things work here.

Before You Drive Over

Check What's Free From Your Phone

The availability board is a web page, not an app — no download, no account, no sign-up. Open it, see how many machines are free, then decide whether to come now or after dinner.

What People Tell Us

I have not carried quarters in two years. Tap the card, the machine starts, the app tells me when it is done. It should not be remarkable and somehow it is.

The board by the door tells you how many machines are free before you unload the car. On a Sunday afternoon that single detail is worth the drive.

Clean, bright, everything works, and when a machine did jam the credit was back on my card before I got home. Nothing about it is fussy.

The Boring Details That Decide It

Everything people actually ring up to ask.

Parking

Twenty-two spaces, free, lit, and none more than forty feet from the door.

Step-Free

Level entry, a 36-inch aisle throughout, and four front-loaders at low height.

Dogs Welcome

On a lead, water bowl by the seating. Plenty of people wash and walk.

Last Wash

9pm, so every load can finish drying before the doors close at ten.

Questions We Get

Really no coins at all?

None. Every washer and dryer takes contactless — bank card, phone, watch or the Quillon account card. There is no change machine on the premises because there is nothing here that takes change.

What if I don't have a card?

The kiosk by the door sells a Quillon card and loads it with cash, so you can still pay with notes. The balance never expires and it works on every machine.

How accurate is the availability board?

It is live. Every machine reports its own state, so the board is reading the machines rather than estimating. It also shows how many minutes the busy ones have left, which is usually the number you actually want.

What happens if a machine takes my money and does nothing?

The credit goes back to the card automatically, usually within a minute, and the machine takes itself out of service. You do not need to find anybody or fill anything in — though the attendant is there 6am to 10pm if you would rather speak to a person.

Can I wash a comforter?

Yes — the six 55 lb machines at the back take a king comforter comfortably, along with sleeping bags, ski gear and dog bedding. It is one cycle at $9.25 rather than four loads on a home machine that cannot get the water through it.

Is there somewhere to work while I wait?

Sixteen seats along the window, each with a power outlet, plus wifi that will hold a video call. The dryer bank is sound-rated and the floor has acoustic panels, so it is quiet enough to take a meeting — several regulars do.
