The Door Is Usually Older Than The Lock
Charlotte has a great many houses from the twenties and thirties, and their doors were made by somebody who expected them to last. A modern lock case fitted carelessly into one of those does permanent damage to something that cannot be replaced. So we measure first, we match hardware where we can find it, and where a door genuinely needs modern security we fit it in a way that is reversible rather than gouged in.

Common Questions
Do you really give a one-hour window?
Yes, and we call when we are about fifteen minutes away. An all-day window costs you a working day, which is a strange thing to charge somebody for on top of the invoice.
Will you make a mess?
No. A sheet goes down before anything is drilled, shavings are vacuumed rather than swept, and the old hardware and packaging leave with us. It is two minutes of work and it is the thing people mention most.
Can you keep my original door hardware?
Very often, yes. Original plates and escutcheons can usually be reused even when the mechanism inside is replaced, which keeps an old door looking like itself.
Should I rekey or replace after moving in?
Rekey, in almost every case. It costs less, takes less time, and unless the hardware is worn a rekeyed lock is exactly as secure as a new one.
My door sticks — is that the lock?
Usually not. Frames move and hinges drop, particularly on older houses. We check the whole door before condemning the lock, and the fix is often a great deal cheaper than expected.
Do you charge extra for evenings?
There is a rate for the evening and Sunday emergency line, and we will tell you what it is on the phone. Between eight and six, Monday to Saturday, it is the standard rate.
