San Diego's Veteran-Owned Movers
Military families move more than almost anyone, and they move differently: on orders, on tight timelines, with a report date that doesn't flex, and with a government process — PCS entitlements, DITY weight tickets, reimbursement paperwork — that a civilian mover simply doesn't understand. San Diego, with its heavy military presence, is full of families PCSing in and out, and they deserve movers who actually get their life.
Basecamp is veteran-owned and operated, and for sixteen years we've specialized in military and PCS moves across San Diego and the base communities. Because we've served, we know the PCS process cold — the timelines, what's authorized, how a government move works, and how a personally procured move needs to be documented to get your full entitlement. We plan around your orders and report date, pack and move with the discipline and precision you'd expect from someone who's worn the uniform, and for DITY moves we provide the labor and help you get proper certified weight tickets so your reimbursement is airtight. We handle local and long-distance moves, packing, and storage-in-transit for the gaps military life creates. Service members, spouses, and retiring military trust us because we treat their move the way we'd want ours treated — squared away, on time, and with respect for the family behind it. If you're on orders in or out of San Diego, we've got you.

Rated 4.9 by the Military Community
We PCS'd from San Diego to Norfolk on short-notice orders and Basecamp made a stressful move genuinely smooth. Being veteran-owned, they understood the PCS process cold — the timeline, the weight tickets, what we could and couldn't do — and they worked around my husband's report date. They packed us fast, moved us cross-country, and everything arrived intact and on schedule. As a military spouse who has done this too many times, I can tell you these folks are different: they get it. If you're on orders out of San Diego, call them first. They took care of our family.
I did a DITY move to save the entitlement and Basecamp's PPM help was exactly what I needed — they provided the labor to load and unload the truck and, crucially, helped me get proper certified weight tickets so my reimbursement paperwork was airtight. They know the DITY process better than I did and saved me from mistakes that cost people money. Professional, on time, and fair-priced for the labor. Doing a personally procured move without their help would have been a nightmare. For any service member doing a DITY out of San Diego, this is the move. Outstanding.
Basecamp moved our family across town when we transferred to a new base assignment, and the whole experience reflected the fact that they're run by people who've served. Punctual, disciplined, respectful of our home and our things, and completely squared away on the details. They packed the kids' rooms first so bedtime wasn't chaos, and they hit every window they promised. The pricing was honest and there were no surprises. Military families move constantly and rarely get movers who truly understand our life — Basecamp does. We'll use them for every move while we're stationed here. Highly recommend to the military community.
As a retiring service member making my final move off active duty, I wanted it done right, and Basecamp delivered. They handled a long-distance move with the same precision I'd expect from a unit — planned, inventoried, on schedule, and communicative the whole way. Being veteran-owned, they treated my move like it mattered, not like a number. Everything arrived in perfect condition and they helped with storage during the transition. After a career of PCS moves, this was the smoothest one I've had. I recommend them without reservation to anyone in the military community moving in or out of San Diego. Semper Fi.
Military & PCS Moving FAQ
Do you understand the PCS and DITY process?
Yes — thoroughly, and it's the main reason military families choose us over a general mover. We're veteran-owned and operated, so we understand government moves, PCS entitlements, report-date timelines, and especially the DITY/PPM (personally procured move) process, where the details determine how much of your entitlement you actually receive. For a DITY, that means we provide the loading and unloading labor and, critically, help you get proper certified empty and full weight tickets, because your reimbursement is calculated on documented weight and a missing or incorrect ticket can cost you real money. We'll walk you through what you need, plan the move around your orders, and handle the parts that trip people up. A mover who doesn't know the difference between a PCS and a PPM can create expensive problems; we speak the language and know the process.
Can you work around my report date and short-notice orders?
Yes — planning around a fixed report date and accommodating short-notice orders is exactly how we operate, because that's military reality. Your report date doesn't move, so we build the move backward from it, and during PCS season (roughly late spring through summer, when most moves happen) we staff up specifically to handle the demand. If you get short-notice orders, call us — we keep availability open for fast turnarounds and are used to compressing a move into a tight window without cutting corners. We'll be honest about what's achievable on your timeline and prioritize accordingly. Deployment schedules, house-hunting trips, and the general unpredictability of military life are all things we plan around routinely, so tell us your constraints and we'll build the move to fit them.
What's the difference between a government (PCS) move and a DITY?
In a government-arranged PCS move, the military contracts and pays a moving company to relocate your household goods, and you have less control over timing and which mover you get. In a DITY or PPM (personally procured move), you arrange the move yourself and the government reimburses you based on the documented weight of what you moved, up to your entitlement — which means if you move efficiently, you can pocket the difference, but you're responsible for the logistics and the paperwork. Many service members do a DITY specifically to earn that entitlement, and that's where we help most: we provide professional labor so it's not just you and a few friends, and we make sure your weight tickets and documentation are correct so your claim is maximized and airtight. We can also help with the moving side of a government PCS. Whichever you're doing, we'll tailor our service to it.
Do you help with weight tickets for a DITY reimbursement?
Yes, and it's one of the most valuable things we do for PPM moves. Your DITY reimbursement is based on the net weight of your household goods, which is documented by weighing the loaded vehicle and the empty vehicle at a certified scale to produce official weight tickets. Getting these right — certified scales, proper documentation, the empty and full weighs done correctly — is essential, and mistakes or missing tickets directly reduce what you're paid. Because we know the process, we help you get proper certified weight tickets as part of the move and make sure the documentation supports your claim. This is exactly the kind of detail a general mover won't think about but that can be worth a significant amount of money to you, and it's a core part of our DITY/PPM service.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We operate under full USDOT and MC interstate authority and California CPUC licensing, and we carry liability and cargo insurance, so your household goods and your home are protected by an accountable, properly credentialed mover. This matters for any move, but especially for military families who are often relocating valuable household goods across long distances on a fixed timeline. We're happy to confirm our credentials, and our licensing means we can legally handle both local California moves and long-distance interstate PCS relocations. Being veteran-owned doesn't replace being properly licensed and insured — we're both, so you get movers who understand your world and who are fully accountable professionals. When we quote your move we'll go over coverage so you know exactly how your belongings are protected.
How do I get started?
Call (619) 555-0137 or send the form with your report date, destination, and whether you're doing a government PCS or a DITY/PPM move, and we'll plan the move around your orders and give you a clear quote. The sooner you reach out — especially during PCS season — the better we can lock in your dates, but we also handle short-notice orders and will tell you honestly what's achievable. From there we manage everything on your timeline: packing, the move itself, storage if there's a gap, and for DITY moves the weight-ticket documentation that protects your reimbursement. Moving on orders is stressful enough; having a veteran-owned crew who genuinely understands the process handle it takes a real weight off the family. Thank you for your service — we'd be honored to handle your move.
