Started By One Block Party In 2014
Alderbrook began at a 2014 Eastown block party, when a handful of neighbors realized the older homeowners on their street needed small repairs nobody was making. One Saturday of fixes turned into a monthly habit, then into a nonprofit that now works in eleven neighborhoods. We still work the same way: small crews, real needs, and neighbors who come back.

Our team came for one Saturday of yard cleanups and now we book a crew every quarter. Everything is organized before we arrive — tools, gloves, a leader, a list.
A crew fixed my front steps and put in a grab bar in one morning. I've lived in this house forty years and I didn't know who to ask. Now I have a volunteer who calls me every Thursday.
I moved here not knowing anyone. The community garden gave me a plot, a few new friends and more tomatoes than I could eat.

Volunteer Questions
Do I need any experience?
No. Crew leaders show you what to do, and repair work is matched to what you're comfortable with.
How old do volunteers need to be?
14 and over with an adult, 18 and over on your own. Some repair tasks are 18+ only.
How much time do I have to give?
As much or as little as you like. Most shifts are three hours, and there's no minimum commitment for volunteer days.
How do homeowners ask for a repair?
Call or send a note. A staff member visits to see what's needed and schedules a crew. There's no cost to the homeowner.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
We're a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so your gift is generally tax-deductible as the law allows, and we email a receipt the same week.
