Saltbrook House opened downtown in 1999 as a winter warming center with twenty cots. Today we're open every night of the year, and our work doesn't stop at the bed. Every guest who wants one is paired with a case manager who helps with the practical steps toward housing — documents, benefits, work, a deposit — and stays in touch after the move.

Guests, Volunteers And Partners
I came in the week after I lost my apartment, with two bags and a lot of shame. Nobody made me feel like a problem. Eight months later my case manager helped me sign a lease, and I still stop by to say hi.
I've volunteered on the Tuesday dinner shift for six years. It's organized, it's respectful, and the guests know our names. It's the best two hours of my week.
Our church collects winter coats every October. Saltbrook tells us exactly what sizes are short, and they're on people's backs the same week.
Cook, Serve, Sort Or Mentor
Volunteers serve breakfast and dinner, sort donated clothing, and help guests practice job interviews. Shifts are two or three hours, and groups from work, school or church are welcome. Every volunteer completes a short orientation first.

Help A Neighbor Get Home
Gifts pay for beds, meals and the deposits that move guests into housing. Send us a note to give once or monthly — we'll reply with a secure giving link.
Common Questions
Who can stay at Saltbrook House?
Adults 18 and over, of any gender. Families with children are referred to our partner family shelters, and we'll help make that call.
What if you're full?
Call us anyway. We check nightly availability with other Spokane shelters and will help you find a bed.
Can I bring my belongings?
Yes. Every guest gets a locker, and we can store a limited amount for guests during the day.
Do I have to be staying there to eat?
No. Breakfast and dinner are open to anyone who comes to the door.
How can my group volunteer?
Send a note with your group size and preferred dates. We'll schedule an orientation and a shift.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Saltbrook House is a registered 501(c)(3), so gifts are generally deductible as the law allows. Ask us for a receipt any time.
