Veteran Resource Center in San Antonio
Benefits, jobs, peer groups and help in a hard month — free for veterans and their families, from people who served or stood beside someone who did.

What We Help With
One front desk for the things veterans and families ask about most. Everything here is free.
Started Around A Kitchen Table In Southtown
In 2011 a retired Army sergeant and a Navy spouse started meeting veterans at a Southtown kitchen table to help with paperwork nobody else would sit down and explain. Ironleaf grew into a walk-in center on South Presa Street, run by veterans and military family members. We don't replace the VA — we help people reach it, and we fill the gaps around it with jobs help, peer groups and a hand in a hard month.

Why Veterans Come Back
You Talk To Someone Who Gets It
Most of our staff and volunteers served or are military family.
We Follow Up
Every visit ends with a plan, and we call to check how it's going.
Nothing Is Too Small
A form, a ride, a résumé or a bad week — bring it in.
Groups And Gatherings
Tuesday Job Lab
6 to 8pm. Résumés, job boards and practice interviews with volunteer recruiters.
Thursday Peer Groups
6:30pm. Separate groups for combat veterans, women veterans, veterans in recovery and caregivers.
Friday Coffee
8 to 10am. No agenda — coffee, breakfast tacos and other veterans.

Mentor A Veteran Who's Just Getting Out
Veteran mentors meet with someone newer to civilian life once or twice a month — over coffee, at the job lab or on the phone. Non-veterans help too, at the front desk, with résumés or by driving veterans to appointments. Every volunteer gets training and a background check.

In Their Words
I put off my disability claim for six years because the forms beat me every time. Ironleaf sat me down with an accredited rep, and for the first time someone explained where it stood.
The Tuesday job lab rewrote my résumé so a civilian could read it. Two months later I started as a logistics supervisor.
When my husband came home, I didn't know who to talk to. The caregivers' group meets the same night as his, and we drive home together.
Keep The Emergency Fund Open
Gifts cover utility shutoffs, rent gaps and car repairs that keep a veteran working, plus the center's daily costs. Tell us the amount you'd like to give and we'll send a secure giving link, or ask about workplace giving.
Before You Come In
Do your services cost anything?
No. Every service is free for veterans and their families.
Do I need my DD-214?
It helps, but don't let it stop you. If you don't have it, we'll help you request a copy.
Can you file my VA claim?
Claims should be filed with a VA-accredited representative. We'll help you get your records together and introduce you to an accredited representative who works free of charge.
Can my spouse come on their own?
Yes. Spouses, caregivers and surviving spouses can use every service, with or without the veteran.
What if I'm in crisis right now?
Dial 988 and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line, any time, day or night. In an emergency, call 911.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Ironleaf is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so gifts are generally tax-deductible as the law allows. Receipts go out by email the same week.
