Why is a contact lens exam different from a glasses exam?
A contact lens sits on your eye, so we also measure the eye's surface and check how the lens fits and moves. A glasses prescription alone isn't enough to order contacts.
I have astigmatism. Can I wear contacts?
Almost always. Soft lenses for astigmatism suit most people, and rigid or scleral lenses can correct higher amounts.
What are scleral lenses?
Larger rigid lenses that rest on the white of the eye and hold a layer of fluid over the cornea. They're often used for keratoconus, irregular corneas and some dry eye.
Is ortho-k safe for children?
When it's fitted carefully and the cleaning routine is followed, many children wear it successfully. Like any contact lens, it carries a small infection risk, so check-ups matter.
Does insurance cover contact lenses?
Many vision plans include a contact lens allowance. Specialty lenses for conditions like keratoconus are sometimes covered by medical insurance. We'll check before your visit.
What does a fitting cost?
It depends on the lens type — everyday soft lenses cost far less to fit than sclerals. We'll quote the fitting fee before we start.
