Children's Vision Therapy in Durham, NC
When reading brings headaches, double vision or lost places on the page, the problem can be how the eyes work together — not how clearly they see. We test for it, and treat it one-to-one.

20/20 Isn't The Whole Story
A school screening checks how clearly a child sees one line across the room. It doesn't check whether both eyes turn in together for close work, hold focus through a page, or move smoothly along a line of text.
When those skills lag, reading is tiring. Children skip words, lose their place, rub their eyes or avoid homework — and are sometimes labeled as not trying.
- ✓Eye teaming (convergence)
- ✓Focusing stamina
- ✓Smooth eye tracking
Does Any Of This Sound Familiar?
Reading Is A Battle
Skipped lines, a finger to keep the place, or reading well for five minutes then falling apart.
Blur Or Double Vision
Words that swim, blur or double up after a few minutes of close work.
Headaches After Homework
Tired eyes, headaches or rubbing eyes at the end of a school day.
Evaluations & Programs
Every program starts with a full binocular vision evaluation, so therapy is only recommended when it can help.

What Therapy Actually Looks Like
1Hands-On Activities
Cards, beads, pegboards and lenses that train the eyes to team and focus.
2Pencil & Paper Work
Tracking and copying tasks that build steady eye movements for reading.
3Reading Practice
Fifteen minutes a day, with a checklist parents can actually follow.

What Vision Therapy Can — And Can't — Do
Vision therapy treats problems with how the eyes work together: eye teaming, focusing and tracking. The strongest evidence is for convergence insufficiency, a common cause of reading discomfort.
It is not a treatment for dyslexia or learning disabilities, though a child with those can also have a vision problem worth treating. If your child needs a different kind of help, we'll say so and point you to it.
- ✓Therapy only when testing supports it
- ✓Clear goals and re-testing
- ✓Referrals when another specialist fits better
Parents Usually Ask
How is this different from a regular eye exam?
A regular exam checks clarity and eye health. A binocular vision evaluation measures how the two eyes aim, focus and move together during close work — it takes about 90 minutes.
How long does a program take?
Many programs run three to six months of weekly sessions, but it depends on the problem. We set goals at the start and re-test along the way.
Does vision therapy treat dyslexia?
No. Dyslexia is a language-based learning difference. Vision therapy can help if a child also has an eye-teaming or focusing problem that makes reading uncomfortable.
Is it covered by insurance?
The evaluation is sometimes covered by medical insurance; therapy coverage varies by plan. We'll check your benefits and give you the full cost before you start.
What does my child do at home?
About fifteen minutes of activities a day, with written instructions. Sticking with home practice is the biggest factor in progress.
Do you treat adults?
Yes — adults with eye strain, eye-teaming problems or vision symptoms after a concussion make up a good part of our practice.
