Who We Are

San Antonio's Popcorn Ceiling Specialists

Popcorn ceilings date a home instantly, trap dust, and make rooms feel lower and darker than they are. Removing them yourself is a miserable, messy job — and doing it badly leaves a rough, patchy surface that looks worse than the texture did. Smoothline exists to make it easy, clean, and flawless.

For twelve years we've specialized in ceilings and drywall across greater San Antonio. Every project starts with careful containment: we seal off the space, protect your floors and furniture, and use dust-controlled removal so your home stays livable. Then we do the part that separates us — a proper skim coat, sanded glass-smooth, with any drywall damage repaired along the way, followed by a clean, even coat of ceiling paint. The result is a modern, seamless ceiling that makes the whole room feel brighter and taller. Fully licensed and insured, tidy from start to finish, and backed by a flawless-finish guarantee.

The Smoothline Difference

Why Ours Looks Truly Smooth

The three things that separate a modern smooth ceiling from a rough scrape-and-paint job.

01

Containment First

We seal and protect the whole space before we scrape, so the dust never spreads and cleanup is effortless.

02

Skim, Don't Just Scrape

Scraping alone leaves a rough surface. We skim-coat and sand to a true, level, glass-smooth finish that paints flawlessly.

03

Repair as We Go

Cracks, sags, and water damage get fixed during the job, so your finished ceiling is seamless — not smooth in patches.

The Popcorn Problem

Why Textured Ceilings Have to Go

Popcorn ceilings were everywhere for decades because they were cheap and hid imperfections — but they've aged badly. That bumpy texture collects dust and cobwebs, is nearly impossible to clean, discolors over time, and makes even a nicely furnished room feel dated and dim. Worse, older popcorn can crack, flake, and shed onto everything below.

Removing it and smoothing the ceiling is one of the highest-impact, best-value updates you can make to a home. Suddenly rooms feel taller, light bounces cleanly off the flat surface, and the whole space reads as modern and cared-for. The catch is that removal is genuinely messy and the finish is unforgiving — a rushed scrape leaves a rough, wavy surface that's obvious from across the room. That's exactly the part we've perfected: contained, dust-free removal followed by a true skim-coated, glass-smooth finish that looks like it was always meant to be there.

  • Rooms feel taller and brighter
  • No more dust-trapping texture
  • A clean, modern, timeless look
  • One of the best-value home updates

Smoothline removed the popcorn ceilings from our entire first floor and the difference is night and day — the rooms feel taller, brighter, and finally modern. What amazed me was the dust control: they sealed everything off and our home was spotless when they finished. Smooth, flawless ceilings and zero mess. I only wish we'd done it years ago.

We had ugly water stains and a sagging drywall ceiling from an old roof leak. Smoothline repaired the drywall, skim-coated it perfectly smooth, and repainted so you'd never know there was damage. Prompt, tidy, and genuinely skilled at the finish work. The repair blends in seamlessly. Couldn't be happier with the result.

Scraping popcorn ceilings is a nightmare DIY project — I tried one room and gave up. Smoothline did the whole house fast, contained the dust completely, and the skim-coated finish is glass-smooth. They painted them a clean bright white and the whole place feels renovated. Professional from quote to cleanup. Highly recommend.

From the estimate to the final coat, Smoothline was organized and communicative. They removed popcorn from the living areas, patched a dozen cracks and nail pops, and left every ceiling smooth and freshly painted. No dust migrated anywhere thanks to their containment. Fair price, flawless work, and a crew that clearly takes pride in it.

Good to Know

Popcorn Removal & Drywall FAQ

Is popcorn removal really that messy?

It can be — but not the way we do it. Scraping wet popcorn texture creates a lot of debris, which is why dust and mess are homeowners' biggest fear. We eliminate that with full containment: we seal off the work area with plastic, cover and protect floors and furniture, and use dust-controlled methods and cleanup as we go. The result is smooth new ceilings with your home left as clean as we found it. Our crews take the containment as seriously as the finish.

Do you skim-coat or just scrape?

We skim-coat — and it's the single biggest difference between a smooth ceiling and a rough one. Scraping alone removes the texture but leaves an uneven, imperfect surface that looks bad under paint. After removal, we apply a skim coat of joint compound and sand it to a truly level, glass-smooth finish before priming and painting. That extra step is why our finished ceilings look modern and flawless rather than patchy.

Can you remove asbestos popcorn?

Popcorn ceilings installed before the 1980s can contain asbestos, so we always recommend testing older ceilings before removal. If a test comes back positive, we'll coordinate with a licensed abatement specialist to handle it safely and legally before we do the smoothing and finishing work — we won't scrape a ceiling that hasn't been cleared. For newer, tested-clear ceilings, we proceed with our standard dust-controlled removal.

Do you repair drywall damage too?

Yes — drywall repair is part of doing ceilings right. As we remove and smooth, we patch cracks, fill nail pops, repair sagging or water-damaged sections, and re-tape failing seams. Staining or damage from old leaks is sealed so it never bleeds back through the paint. Any repairs are included in your written quote, and the goal is a finished ceiling that's seamless top to bottom, not smooth in some spots and flawed in others.

How long does a ceiling take?

A single room is often a day or two, and a whole home typically runs several days depending on the square footage, the amount of repair needed, and drying time between the skim coat, primer, and paint. We'll give you a realistic timeline at your quote and keep the containment up until we're completely done and cleaned. Because we prep and protect thoroughly, the process is clean and predictable from start to finish.

How do I get a quote?
