Service Dog Questions
How much does service dog training cost in Tampa?
Owner-trainer service dog programs usually run $3,000–$10,000 over 18–24 months, compared with $20,000 or more for a fully trained program dog. We quote after the candidate evaluation, because the tasks and timeline vary so much.
Do I need to register or certify my service dog?
In the US, no. The ADA does not require registration, certification or a vest. Be wary of anyone selling them. What makes a service dog is task training and public behavior.
Can any dog become a service dog?
No — many lovely dogs aren't suited to the work. That's why every program starts with an honest evaluation.
What's the difference between a service dog and an emotional support animal?
Under the ADA, a service dog is individually trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability and may go into public places. Emotional support animals aren't task-trained and don't have the same public access rights. Your doctor can advise on what fits your needs.
How long does training take?
Most owner-trainer teams take 18–24 months to reach reliable public access. Rushing it is the most common reason teams struggle.
Do you train dogs for me?
We coach you to train your own dog. We don't place fully trained program dogs.
