Ann Arbor Small Pet Sitting

Most sitters are dog people. We're the ones who know a rabbit that stops eating is an emergency, a parakeet needs the cover on at dusk, and a cat would rather you didn't make eye contact on day one.

Why Us

Cats Need More Than An Automatic Feeder

A feeder keeps a cat fed. It doesn't notice she's stopped using the litter box, or that the water fountain has run dry, or that she's hiding under the bed because the smoke alarm chirped at 3am. Burrowmere sends the same two sitters every trip — one lead, one backup — who learn your cat's habits and treat a change as something to tell you about today.

  • ✓Same two named sitters, every trip
  • ✓Litter, water and appetite checked every visit
  • ✓Medication given and logged with a photo
  • ✓Plants watered, blinds moved, mail brought in
What We Know

Small Pets Have Big Rules

These are the things a general pet sitter can miss and we check on every visit.

Hay first, always

A rabbit or guinea pig's gut has to keep moving. Unlimited hay, fresh water and a check that droppings look normal — a rabbit that hasn't eaten in 12 hours gets a call to you and your vet.

Heat, light and timers

Reptiles live or die by their lamps. We check basking and UV bulbs, timers and tank temperature every visit, and carry a spare bulb.

Birds on their routine

Covered at dusk, uncovered in the morning, fresh water and seed, cage paper changed, and no ceiling fans running while we're in the room.

Water that's actually fresh

Bottles unclogged, fountains refilled, bowls scrubbed. The most common thing we find on a first visit is a sipper bottle that's stopped working.

Getting Started

Three Steps Before Your Trip

01

Free meet and greet

Both sitters visit, meet every animal, and go through your care sheet — feeding, lights, hiding spots, the cat who bites.

02

Keys and care notes

We pick up a key, write the care plan and note your vet, including an exotics vet for reptiles and birds.

03

Visits and photos

Visits start the day you leave. A photo and a note arrive after every one — yes, even of the hamster.

Multi-Pet Homes

The Cat, The Rabbit And The Parakeet In One Visit

Ann Arbor homes are full of mixed households: a cat and a house rabbit, two guinea pigs and a gecko, a parakeet in the kitchen and a tabby on the sofa by the window. One sitter, one visit, every animal cared for in the right order — the cat shut in a bedroom before the cage door opens, the rabbit fed before the cat gets attention.

  • ✓Every animal in the house on one visit
  • ✓Cage and room doors managed so nobody meets who shouldn't
  • ✓Extra pets just $4 each
How A Visit Runs

Thirty Minutes, In This Order

1

Look before touching

Is everyone where they should be, eating, breathing normally, moving normally? Droppings, water level, cage temperature.

2

Food and water

Hay topped up, greens chopped, seed and pellets measured, every bowl and bottle refilled with fresh water.

3

Clean and reset

Litter box, cage paper or spot-clean, a wipe of the water fountain, lights and timers confirmed.

4

Company and the note

Lap time, floor time or a quiet sit nearby for the shy ones. Then the photo and note before we lock up.

What Ann Arbor Owners Say

★★★★★
Our two rabbits are bonded and skittish. The sitter knew to check the litter box for pellets, topped the hay twice and sent a photo of them flopped out together. Nobody else we called even knew what a flop was.

★★★★★
A bearded dragon needs his lights on a timer and his greens chopped a certain way. They followed the care sheet exactly and texted when the basking bulb blew — and replaced it.
Marcus DelgadoOwner of Ziggy · Kerrytown
★★★★★
Three cats, a parakeet and a guinea pig, and one sitter who handled all of them in one visit without the cats ever seeing the cage door open.

★★★★★
They noticed our guinea pig wasn't eating on day two and called us right away. The vet said another day could have been serious.
Oliver GrantOwner of Pumpkin · Water Hill
★★★★★
Our cat hides from strangers for a living. By visit four she was on the sitter's lap. The daily photo was the only way I'd have believed it.

★★★★★
Ten days away with a diabetic cat and a house rabbit. Every insulin dose logged, the hay rack always full, the apartment exactly as we left it.

Questions

Before You Book

How much does a pet sitter cost for a rabbit or a cat in Ann Arbor?

Pet sitters in the Ann Arbor area usually charge $20–$32 for a drop-in visit and $80–$120 for an overnight. Ours is $26 for a rabbit visit, $25 for a cat visit, $22 for guinea pigs and hamsters, $25 for birds and reptiles and $95 for an overnight, for up to two pets.

Do you sit dogs?

No. We're small pets only — rabbits, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, birds and reptiles. It's why the people who own them call us.

How often does my rabbit need a visit?

Once a day is the minimum we'll agree to, and twice a day is better: rabbits need fresh hay and water around the clock, and a rabbit that stops eating can get seriously ill within a day. The two-visit day is our most-booked option for rabbits.

Can you look after a snake or a bearded dragon?

Yes. We follow your care sheet for feeding, misting and handling, check heat and UV lamps and timers on every visit, and carry a spare bulb. If your reptile eats live insects, you supply them and we'll feed on your schedule.

What if something's wrong while I'm away?

We call you first and your vet second, and we keep an exotics vet on file for rabbits, birds and reptiles. With your written permission, we'll take your pet to the vet ourselves if we can't reach you.

How far ahead should I book?

Two weeks for most trips. Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring break fill four to six weeks ahead.
