Our Studio

A Little Studio with a Lot of Heart

The Spotted Easel started in 2014 in a sunny corner of Asheville's River Arts District, with two potter's wheels, a wall of mismatched paint, and a stubborn belief that everyone is creative — they just need the right room to prove it.

Twelve years and twelve thousand finished pieces later, we're still that room. Kids find their confidence at the Saturday class. Grown-ups rediscover theirs at paint night. First-timers sit down at the wheel sure they'll be terrible and leave clutching a wobbly mug they're absurdly proud of. We supply everything — the clay, the canvases, the aprons, the encouragement — and we fire and glaze every ceramic piece in our own kiln so you always take home something real.

No experience required. No talent assumed. Just a couple of hours, your hands, and the very good feeling of having made something.

Why Make Here

The Easy Kind of Creative

We take care of all the fussy parts — the setup, the supplies, the firing, the cleanup — so you get to keep the best part: making something with your own two hands.

Zero Experience Needed

Truly. Most of our makers have never touched a wheel or held a brush since grade school. Our instructors meet you exactly where you are and make it impossible to fail.

Everything's Included

Clay, paint, canvases, brushes, aprons, the lot. Just show up in clothes you don't mind getting a little colorful — we've got the rest covered.

We Fire & Glaze It

Every pottery and ceramic piece is kiln-fired in our own studio. We'll text you the moment it's ready, usually about a week later, to come collect your finished work.

Small, Friendly Classes

We keep class sizes small so everyone gets real attention and a relaxed pace. It's hands-on help, never a lecture — and a genuinely good time.

Take Home Real Art

You don't leave with a worksheet. You leave with a canvas for your wall or a mug for your morning coffee — something you'll actually use and be proud of.

Gift Cards & Walk-Ins

Stuck for a present? A Spotted Easel gift card is the easiest yes. Open-studio walk-ins are welcome too, whenever the creative mood strikes.

How It Works

From Blank to Brilliant

Making something here is about as easy as it gets. Pick, create, and carry home — we handle everything in between.

01

Pick Your Class

Browse classes for kids or grown-ups, choose a one-off night or a multi-week course, and reserve your spot online in about a minute.

02

Come Create

Show up — we've got the aprons, supplies, and a friendly instructor ready. Just bring yourself, a curious mind, and zero pressure to be 'good.'

03

We Fire & Finish

For pottery and glaze work, we kiln-fire every piece in-house and let it cure. We'll text you the moment it's ready to collect.

04

Take It Home

Walk out with something you made with your own two hands — and, fair warning, the itch to come straight back and make the next one.

Parties & Private Events

The Most Fun You Can Have with an Apron On

Birthday parties, baby showers, bachelorette nights, team offsites, scout troops, club outings — if you've got a crew and a reason to celebrate, we've got the studio for it.

Reserve a private session and we'll set the room for your group, lay out every supply, and put a friendly instructor in charge of the fun. Choose canvas painting, clay hand-building, or the wheel, and we'll tailor the project to your ages and vibe. You bring the people (and the snacks, and the bottle if it's a grown-up affair); we bring the aprons, the creativity, and all of the cleanup. Everyone goes home with something they made together — and a much better story than another dinner reservation.

I booked a paint & sip for my sister's birthday with zero artistic ability between the eight of us, and we left with eight canvases we were genuinely proud of and our cheeks sore from laughing. The instructor made it feel impossible to mess up — she just kept us going with a glass of wine and a lot of encouragement. We've already booked the next one. Best girls' night we've had in years.

My daughter has done the Saturday kids' class for two years now and it's the highlight of her week. She's gone from nervous scribbles to bringing home glazed bowls and canvases we actually display. The teachers are patient, the space is joyful and spotless, and they clearly love what they do. It's so much more than a craft hour — it's where she found her confidence.

I always wanted to try the pottery wheel and assumed I'd be terrible. Two hours later I'd made a wobbly little mug, the studio fired and glazed it, and I picked it up a week later feeling like an absolute artist. The whole thing was relaxing in a way I didn't expect — completely absorbing, hands in the clay, phone forgotten. I've signed up for the six-week course now.

We held our team offsite here and it was the best decision — way better than another escape room. Everyone got messy, nobody could hide behind their job title, and we walked out with a wall of tiles we made together that now hangs in the office. The Spotted Easel handled all of it, supplies and aprons and cleanup. Genuinely the most fun our team has had together.

Good to Know

Questions, Answered

Do I need any experience or talent?

None at all — that's the whole point. The vast majority of our makers haven't done art since school, and plenty arrive convinced they'll be hopeless. Our instructors are wonderful at meeting beginners exactly where they are, breaking things into easy steps, and keeping it relaxed and fun. You will surprise yourself. We promise there's no wrong way to do this.

What should I wear, and will I get messy?

Wear something you don't mind getting a little colorful, even though we provide aprons for every class. Paint and clay generally wash out, but accidents are part of the charm, so leave the dry-clean-only outfit at home. Closed-toe shoes are a good idea in the pottery studio. We've got hand-washing stations and everything you need to clean up before you head out.

What ages do you teach?

Everyone from age four to a hundred and four. We run dedicated kids' classes and camps grouped by age, family classes where grown-ups and little ones create side by side, and plenty of adults-only sessions like paint & sip and the six-week wheel course. If you're not sure which class suits your child or your group, just ask — we'll point you to the right fit.

How do private parties and events work?

Reserve a private session for your group and we handle the rest. We set the room, lay out every supply, and provide a dedicated instructor to guide the project — canvas painting, clay hand-building, or the wheel, tailored to your ages and occasion. You bring the people and any food, drinks, or decorations; we bring the creativity and do all the cleanup. Popular weekend slots book up early, so reach out ahead.

Can you host adult events and team offsites?

Absolutely — they're some of our favorites. Bachelorette parties, birthdays, baby showers, book clubs, and corporate team-building all work beautifully here. For grown-up groups you're welcome to bring wine or other drinks. Team offsites are a hit because making art together breaks down the usual hierarchies fast, and everyone leaves with something they made as a group. Tell us your headcount and vibe and we'll design the session.

How do I book and pay?

Booking is online in about a minute, or give us a call at (828) 555-0173 and we'll sort it for you. You can reserve and pay for single classes, multi-week courses, camps, and private parties right from our site. Prices are listed per class with all supplies included — no surprise materials fees. We send a confirmation and a friendly reminder before your session.

What's your cancellation policy, and do you sell gift cards?

Life happens — cancel or reschedule a class up to 48 hours ahead for a full credit, and we'll always work with you on genuine emergencies. Private parties have their own simple terms we'll walk you through when you book. And yes, we sell gift cards in any amount, available online or at the studio — they're our most popular present, perfect for the person who has everything but could use a creative night out.
