Signatures Done Properly — Notary Public in Old Town Alexandria
From a second-floor office on King Street, Old Town Notary has witnessed Alexandria's estates, deeds, deployments, and everyday paperwork since 2011 — with the unhurried formality this city has always preferred.

A City of Records Deserves a Careful Witness
Alexandria has been keeping serious records since 1749 — deeds for houses that predate the republic, wills probated across three centuries, and now, your paperwork. Old Town Notary was founded on the belief that this tradition deserves better than a rushed stamp at a shipping counter.
Our practice runs the old-fashioned way, deliberately: appointments honored to the minute, certificates completed in careful hand, journals maintained like the city's own archives. But don't mistake tradition for slowness — walk-ins are seen promptly six days a week, and the desk handles modern complications (apostilles, embassy chains, federal forms) with complete fluency. The manners are historic. The competence is current.
- ✓Walk-ins welcome, six days a week

The Work of the Desk
Six lines of practice, each handled with the same unhurried exactness.
Walk-In Notarizations
Affidavits, acknowledgments, and everyday documents — walk up the stairs at 211 King Street and be witnessed within minutes, Saturdays included.
Estate & Trust Signings
Wills, trusts, and powers executed with proper formality — witnesses arranged, certificates exact, attorneys' instructions followed to the letter.
Historic Property Documents
Deeds and conveyances for Old Town's 18th- and 19th-century homes, handled by people who know why the provenance matters.
Military & Federal Paperwork
Deployment POAs, allotments, and federal forms for the region's service members and civil servants — fluent, fast, and grateful.
Apostille & Embassy Papers
Richmond authentication and D.C. embassy legalization, twenty minutes from the embassies themselves — one quote, one clean chain.
Home & Office Visits
The desk travels — to Del Ray parlors, Arlington offices, and bedsides across the region, by appointment.
What We Refuse to Modernize
Some practices survive three centuries because they work. We keep these on purpose.
Punctuality
Appointments begin on the minute. Yours, and therefore ours.
The Careful Hand
Certificates written precisely, because a sloppy jurat dishonors a serious document.
The Kept Journal
Every act recorded and retrievable — evidence that outlives memory, as records should.
Discretion
Your affairs stay at the desk. Alexandria is a small town; we keep it that way.
The Offered Chair
Nobody signs standing up in a hurry. Sit; the document deserves your attention.
Courtesy, Unmetered
Questions answered, second copies stamped, directions to lunch on King Street provided free.
From Inquiry to Witnessed
Whether you walk in or write ahead, the sequence is calm and predictable.
Come By or Write
Walk up during hours, or arrange a time by phone or form — including home and office visits across the region.
The Document Reviewed
We confirm the certificate, witnesses, and identification your document requires — before anyone signs anything.
Witnessed Properly
Identity verified, oath administered where required, the certificate completed in careful hand.
Entered in the Journal
The act recorded to archival standard — Alexandria expects nothing less of its records.

Up the Stairs at 211 King Street
The office occupies the second floor of a Federal-era building on King Street — wide-plank floors, tall windows over the bustle, and a signing room that has calmed a thousand nervous first-time sellers. Come up the stairs, take the offered chair, and conduct your business the way Alexandrians have for two centuries: unhurried and exact.
Parking wisdom, since you'll ask: the Market Square garage is two blocks west, and the trolley stops at our corner. Saturday hours exist because weekday errands are a modern cruelty, and the desk sees no reason to participate in it.

Fifteen Years of Grateful Signers
We closed on a 1790s rowhouse on Prince Street, and the title company warned us the deed history was 'colorful.' Old Town Notary handled the signing with the care of people who genuinely love these houses — every certificate exact, every question answered, and a short history of our block offered while the ink dried. Perfectly Alexandria.
As a Navy family we've PCS'd six times, and nobody has made the paperwork easier than this office. POAs before deployment, allotment forms, the works — they know the military documents cold and never charge for the second copy you'll inevitably need. This is the notary the fleet tells each other about.
My mother's trust was re-executed at their King Street office — a lovely, calm room above the bustle. Witnesses arranged, formalities observed to the letter, and tea offered like it was 1925. Our attorney reviewed the packet and said it was the cleanest execution he'd seen all year.

Walk Up, or Write Ahead
Weekdays 9 to 6, Saturdays 10 to 2 — and the kettle is generally on.
Asked at the Desk
Do I need an appointment to walk in?
No — walk-ins are the tradition here. Come up the stairs during hours (weekdays 9 to 6, Saturdays 10 to 2) and you'll generally be witnessed within minutes. Appointments earn a reserved chair and are wise for estate signings, multi-signer documents, or anything requiring arranged witnesses.
Can you handle military powers of attorney quickly?
Quickly and gratefully — deployment timelines are respected absolutely at this desk. POAs, allotment forms, and family-care paperwork for the region's service members are daily work; we know the formats, keep the process brisk, and the second copy you'll inevitably need is stamped without charge. Walk in with orders in hand and we'll sort the rest.
What's involved in an apostille or embassy legalization?
For Hague-convention countries, your document travels to Richmond for the Commonwealth's apostille; for the rest, it continues to the U.S. State Department and the destination embassy in Washington — twenty minutes from this desk, which keeps our chains shorter than most. One quote covers the whole journey, with honest timelines and updates as it moves.
Do you make house calls?
By appointment, across Alexandria, Arlington, and the near region — parlors, offices, hospitals, and retirement communities. The desk travels with everything the signing requires, including arranged witnesses when needed. Most visits are scheduled within two or three days; urgent circumstances are accommodated when honorably possible.
What does the desk charge?
Virginia's statutory fee per notarial act, plus posted flat fees for travel, apostille handling, and arranged witnesses — a printed card at the desk, quoted before any work begins. Fifteen years without a surprised client is a record we intend to keep.
Why do you make such a fuss about the journal?
Because documents outlive memories, and occasionally outlive their signers. When a will is questioned in probate or a deed disputed decades hence, our journal evidences exactly when and how the signature was witnessed — the quiet insurance inside every act. Alexandria has kept careful records for 275 years; we see no reason to lower the standard.
Arrange a Signing
Write with the particulars and the desk will reply the same business day — or simply walk up the stairs.
