Play Again: Sports Physical Therapy in Louisville, KY
We don't clear you on a calendar. You go back when you hop, cut and load at 90% of your other side — and we build the whole plan backwards from your season dates.
Built Around Getting You Back
Every one of these ends with a test, not with someone deciding you look about ready.

Nine Seasons on East Market
Steepline was started in 2017 by two therapists who had spent years on the sideline with high-school and college teams, and were tired of watching athletes get cleared to play by a date on a chart.
Everything here is organised around one question: what does this athlete have to be able to do, and can they do it yet? That means testing — force plates, hop batteries, sprint exposure, throwing progressions — and it means telling people what the numbers say even when the answer is not what they want to hear.
We treat the fourteen-year-old with a first ankle sprain and the forty-four-year-old chasing a masters PB with the same seriousness. The sport changes. The standard doesn't.
- ✓Sports-certified (SCS) therapists on staff
- ✓Return-to-sport testing on every discharge
- ✓Plans built backwards from your season dates
- ✓First session at 6am, last at 8pm
The Five Phases, and What Ends Each One
You move on when you pass the criterion — not when the weeks are up.
Settle It Down
Swelling gone, full range restored, and normal walking without a limp. Most people skip straight past this and pay for it in phase four.
Rebuild the Strength
Heavy, progressive, boring. The target is 80% of your other side on the key measures — quads, hamstrings, calf — before anything explosive starts.
Add the Spring Back
Jumping, hopping and landing mechanics under increasing speed. We film it, because what a landing looks like at full speed is not what it feels like.
Put the Sport Back In
Cutting, sprinting, decelerating and the specific chaos of your sport. On-field or on-court, at your position, with contact where relevant.
Test, Then Clear
The full battery: hop tests, strength, jump-landing symmetry. At 90% or better on all of it we clear you in writing, and send it to your surgeon and your coach.
What We Measure Before We Clear You
None of this is optional, and none of it is done by eye.
Isokinetic Strength
Quadriceps and hamstring peak torque at multiple speeds, expressed as a percentage of your uninjured side. The single best predictor we have.
Four-Hop Battery
Single, triple, crossover and timed six-metre hop. Symmetry under 90% on any one of them and you are not cleared.
Jump-Landing Analysis
Filmed drop-jump and cut, scored for knee valgus and asymmetry. Slow motion finds what full speed hides.
Sprint & Change of Direction
Timed acceleration and 505 agility. Straight-line speed can look fine while deceleration is still nowhere near ready.
Throwing Progression Metrics
For overhead athletes — range of motion, rotator cuff strength ratios, and a documented pitch or serve count through the return.
A Written Clearance
Every number, dated, signed, and sent to your surgeon and coach. If a coach wants you back early, the sheet is the conversation.
A Gym, Not a Waiting Room
Turf, racks, timing gates and enough space to actually sprint.

From First Call to Cleared
Same-Day Call Back
Tell us the injury and your season dates. We'll usually have you in within two days.
Baseline Testing
A full hour: strength, range, movement screen and a plan mapped backwards from when you need to be back.
The Work
Two to three sessions a week, with a written programme for the days between. Re-tested every four weeks.
Cleared in Writing
Full return-to-sport battery, a signed clearance to your surgeon and coach, and a programme to keep it.

Start Without a Referral
Kentucky's direct access law lets a licensed physical therapist evaluate and treat you without a physician referral. For an in-season athlete that difference is often two or three weeks, which is most of a high-school season.
We are in-network with Anthem, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna and Medicare, and we verify your benefits before your first visit so you know the per-visit number in advance. Cash rates are published: $150 for the evaluation, $100 per session, and a flat $275 for a standalone return-to-sport test battery if another clinic did your rehab.
If something we find needs imaging or a surgeon, we will say so in the first session rather than treating around it.
- ✓No referral needed in Kentucky
- ✓In-network with Anthem, Humana, UHC, Aetna, Medicare
- ✓Published cash rates, benefits checked up front
- ✓Standalone return-to-sport testing available

What Athletes Ask Us
How long until I can play again?
It depends on the injury and on where your strength starts, and anyone who gives you a number before testing you is guessing. What we can tell you at the first visit is the criteria you have to hit and a realistic range — then we re-forecast it every four weeks against your actual numbers.
My surgeon already cleared me at six months. Why test?
Time since surgery tells you about tissue healing. It tells you nothing about whether your quad is back. Athletes who return under 90% limb symmetry re-injure at several times the rate of those who don't, and that gap is invisible without measuring it.
Can you work with my coach or trainer?
Yes, and we prefer it. We'll share the plan, the phase criteria and the clearance sheet, and we'll say plainly what you can and can't do at practice this week. Coaches generally like having a number to point at.
Do you treat non-athletes?
We treat anyone who wants to get back to doing something physical properly. Most of our patients are not varsity anything — they're weekend runners, lifters, adult-league players and parents who'd like their knee to work.
What if my rehab was somewhere else?
We'll run the full return-to-sport battery as a standalone for a flat $275 and give you the written report either way. If you pass, go play. If you don't, we'll tell you exactly which measure is short and roughly how long it takes to fix.
Are you open outside school and work hours?
First session is 6am and the last is 8pm on weekdays, plus Saturday mornings. In-season athletes shouldn't have to miss practice to do rehab.
Tell Us the Injury and the Date You Need
We call back the same day. Bring your season schedule — the plan gets built backwards from it.
