Why Fieldhouse

How Young Athletes Should Be Trained

We're not a scaled-down adult gym. Everything we do is built for developing bodies — safe, effective, and genuinely fun.

Safe & Age-Appropriate

Youth-certified coaches who understand growing bodies and growth spurts. We coach great technique first and program for each kid's stage of development, so training makes them more durable — not injured. Parents can breathe easy.

Real, Measurable Gains

Faster sprint times, higher jumps, more strength, better coordination. We assess, track, and celebrate progress so your athlete — and you — can see exactly how far they've come. Results you can measure and see on the field.

Fun They Look Forward To

Kids improve fastest when they love showing up. Our sessions are high-energy, encouraging, and genuinely fun, so young athletes build confidence and grit while actually enjoying the work. No dread, no burnout.

The Whole Athlete

We develop confidence, work ethic, and a healthy relationship with training — the stuff that lasts long after the final season. We're building great humans who happen to be great athletes, for the long game.

Our Approach

Long-Term Athletes, Not Short-Term Trophies

Fieldhouse started nine years ago with a simple frustration: too much youth training is just watered-down adult workouts, run by people who don't understand developing bodies — and it leaves kids burned out, injured, or turned off sport entirely. We knew there was a better way, one built specifically for young athletes and the long game of their development.

Since then, we've coached over 1,500 Columbus-area kids ages 8 to 18, and our philosophy has never changed. In the foundation years, we build great movement, coordination, and speed through drills kids genuinely love — creating athleticism and confidence that pays off for life. As they get older and more committed, we layer in sport-specific speed, strength, power, and durability, always programmed around their season and their stage of growth. Every coach is youth-certified and obsessed with technique and safety, so training makes kids more resilient, not more injured. And through all of it, we keep it fun and encouraging, because a young athlete who loves showing up is one who keeps improving. We assess and track real progress — sprint times, jumps, strength — so the gains are measurable, not just a feeling. Most of all, we're developing confident, hard-working young people who happen to be excellent athletes. Book a free assessment and let's build your athlete's foundation the right way.

Parent & Athlete Stories

Loved by Columbus Families

My son came to Fieldhouse as an anxious 12-year-old who sat the bench, and two seasons later he's a confident starter who actually loves training. The coaches are incredible — they push him just right, keep it fun, and clearly know how to train a growing kid safely. His speed and coordination are night and day, but honestly the confidence is the biggest win. Best thing we've done for him.
Marcus D.Parent · son, age 14
Both my daughters train here and it's been fantastic. As a parent I was nervous about kids and 'weight training,' but Fieldhouse's approach is all about great movement, agility, and age-appropriate strength — it's clearly built for young bodies. They've gotten dramatically more athletic, they've stayed injury-free through a busy sports year, and they beg to go. The coaches genuinely care about the whole kid, not just the athlete.
Priya N.Parent · two daughters, 10 & 13
As a high-school soccer coach I refer families to Fieldhouse constantly. The kids who train there show up faster, more coordinated, more durable, and more coachable — and it shows on the field. Their coaches understand long-term athletic development, not just running kids into the ground. It's the real deal, and it's exactly what youth sports in Columbus needed.

I started at Fieldhouse the summer before freshman year and made varsity as a sophomore. My coach built me a plan for speed, strength, and staying healthy, and I'm faster and way more explosive than my teammates who don't train. The gym is fun and everyone hypes each other up. I actually look forward to my sessions — they've made me a completely different athlete.

Parent Questions

Questions Parents Ask

Is strength training safe for my child?

Yes — when it's coached properly, which is exactly what we do. Decades of research and every major pediatric and sports-medicine body agree that age-appropriate, well-coached strength and conditioning is safe and beneficial for young athletes, and actually reduces injury risk. The key words are 'age-appropriate' and 'well-coached.' Our coaches are youth-certified, we teach great technique before load, and we program for each child's stage of development. We're not putting kids under a heavy barbell — we're building resilient, coordinated, confident athletes with training built specifically for growing bodies.

What ages do you work with?

We coach young athletes from ages 8 through 18, with programs designed for each stage. Our Athletic Development track (ages 8–12) focuses on movement, coordination, and speed through fun, game-based training that builds a foundation of athleticism. Our Sport Performance track (ages 13–18) adds sport-specific speed, strength, power, and durability, programmed around their season and their growth. On the free assessment we'll place your athlete in exactly the right program for their age, stage, and goals.

My child plays a specific sport — can you help with that?

Absolutely. While we build well-rounded athleticism that helps in any sport, our Sport Performance and 1:1 programs get specific to your athlete's game — the speed, power, movement patterns, and durability their sport demands. We coach athletes across soccer, basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, track, lacrosse, and more, and we're happy to coordinate with their team's schedule. The stronger, faster, more durable athlete wins in every sport, and that's what we build.

Does my child need to be a serious or gifted athlete?

Not at all. We coach everyone from kids just discovering they love to move, to multi-sport middle-schoolers, to varsity standouts chasing the next level. The naturally gifted kid and the late bloomer both belong here — we meet every athlete where they are and develop them from there. Plenty of our athletes started with zero training background and simply wanted to get better, more confident, and have fun. That's exactly who we love to coach.

How do you keep it fun so my kid actually wants to go?

It's built into everything we do, because we know young athletes improve fastest when they love showing up. Our sessions are high-energy, encouraging, and full of games, challenges, and friendly competition — kids build speed and strength without it ever feeling like a grind. Coaches celebrate progress and hype each other's athletes up, so the gym is a place kids feel confident and capable. The result: young athletes who beg to come train, and who build grit and a love of the work that lasts.
