Stepping over a tub wall onto a wet surface is the single most awkward thing most bathrooms ask of you, and it gets harder every decade you own the house.
The room reads twice the size
A glass enclosure where a solid tub-and-curtain used to be changes the whole bathroom visually. It is the cheapest apparent square footage you will ever buy.

You have seen the adverts. A national brand fits an acrylic system over your existing tub surround in a single day, and a salesperson sits at your table for three hours with a price that falls the longer you hesitate.
The product is fine. Acrylic is genuinely good — durable, few seams, almost no grout to scrub — and for most bathrooms it is what we would fit in our own homes. What is not fine is the format: a number invented in your kitchen, a discount tied to signing tonight, and no mention of the cases where acrylic is the wrong call. So we publish both prices, acrylic and tile, on the same sheet, and the quote is the same in ninety days.

Four Numbers, Published
Hold these against any quote you get, including ours. If someone is far above the top of a band, ask what you are paying for; far below, ask what is being left out.
Acrylic conversion · $4,800 - $7,500
Tub out, moulded base, wall panels, glass and haul-away. Two days. The wide end is a larger alcove, a fancier door or a base that needs the floor levelling first.
Tiled conversion · $8,500 - $16,000
Waterproof membrane, sloped mortar bed, tile, glass. About a week. The range is almost entirely the tile you pick and how out-of-square the existing walls are.
Base or pan replacement only · $1,600 - $3,200
When the surround is sound and only the pan has failed. We check for this before quoting a full conversion, because it is a fifth of the money.
What a full bathroom remodel costs · $18,000 - $35,000
For comparison, and it is the honest comparison. If you want the vanity, floor, toilet and lighting done as well, that is a different trade and a different budget — and sometimes it is the right one.

About forty minutes. We check the alcove for square, look at the subfloor and the drain position, and leave. We do not present, and we do not stay for coffee.
Both prices
Acrylic and tile on the same sheet within two working days, itemised, with the glass and haul-away included rather than added later. Good for ninety days.
Order
Two to three weeks for the base and panels or for tile to arrive. Nothing is touched in your bathroom until the material is physically here.
Fit
Two days for acrylic, about five for tile. We tell you in advance which single night you will be without a shower, and the old tub leaves with us.
How Many Bathrooms Do You Have?
It is the first thing we ask, and it changes the job. In a house with two bathrooms this is a mild inconvenience. In a house with one, it is the whole planning problem, and it is the reason we ask before we quote rather than after.
For a single-bathroom home we sequence so the toilet and basin stay live throughout and there is exactly one night without a working shower. We tell you which night at the quote stage, not on the morning it happens. It sounds like a small courtesy. It is the thing people mention in reviews.

Conversions, Honestly
Acrylic or tile — which should I pick?
Acrylic for most people: two days, few seams, effectively no grout to maintain, and roughly half the price. Tile when the alcove is out of square by more than a little, when you want a specific look, or when you are keeping the house a long time and want it to feel bespoke. We measure for square before recommending either, because that is what actually decides it.
Will removing the tub hurt my resale value?
Usually not, and often the opposite — but there is one real exception. If this is the only bathroom in the house and you may sell within a few years, some buyers with small children still want a bath somewhere in the property. If you have two bathrooms and are keeping one tub, there is no argument against it at all. We would rather raise that than let you discover it later.
Can you do the rest of the bathroom too?
No, and that is deliberate. We do one job several times a week, which is why we are fast and why our prices are predictable. If you want the vanity, floor, toilet and lighting done as well, that is a bathroom remodeller's project — a different trade, a different timeline, and usually $18,000-$35,000. We will point you to someone good.
Why is your quote lower than the national brands?
Because we are not paying for the television advertising, the appointment-setting call centre or the commissioned salesperson who sits in your kitchen for three hours. Same acrylic systems from the same manufacturers. The difference is in the overhead, and it lands in the quote.
Is the quote really the same in ninety days?
Yes, in writing. A price that drops thousands because you hesitated was never calculated from your bathroom. If anyone — us included — offers you a discount that expires when they leave your house, let it expire and see what happens to the number.
How long am I actually without a shower?
One night on an acrylic conversion. Three to four on a tiled one. We tell you which nights at the quote, and if you only have one bathroom we plan the sequence around it so the toilet and basin stay live the whole time.
Do I need a permit?
For a straight conversion in the same footprint, usually not in Wichita — we are not moving the drain or altering the layout. If yours turns out to need one because of something we find, we pull it and it is in the quote. Anyone telling you permits are never needed for any bathroom work is not being careful.
What happens to my old tub?
It leaves with us on the same day, included in the price. Cast-iron tubs are heavy enough that some companies charge separately to remove them — check for that line on any quote you are comparing.
Should I add grab bars even if I don't need them?
Yes, and now rather than later. Blocking goes into the wall while it is open, which costs almost nothing at this stage and a great deal afterwards. You can leave the bars off and fit them in ten years — but only if the blocking is there. Bars screwed into panel or tile alone pull out under exactly the load they exist for.
