How the Table Works

Dim sum is a slow, shared thing. Here's the rhythm of a table at Steam & Porcelain — no rush, no wrong way.

1

Choose Your Tea

We pour a full loose-leaf service — jasmine, pu-erh, oolong, chrysanthemum. It steeps at the table and gets topped up all meal.

2

Pour for Others First

The custom is to fill everyone else's cup before your own. Tap two fingers on the table to say thank you.

3

Order from the Card

Tick what you want on the dim sum card. Steamers come out as they're folded — order in a couple of rounds.

4

Let It Arrive

Baskets land at their own pace, hottest-first. That's the whole point — settle in and let the table fill up.

A Calm Room on Keefer Street

Steam & Porcelain opened in 2014 on a quiet block of Vancouver's Chinatown, with one idea: dim sum made by hand, tea poured with care, and a room calm enough to linger in. Our dumpling team folds through the morning, our tea is sourced loose-leaf and blended in-house, and the porcelain and bamboo on your table are the same ones we'd set for family.

No carts crashing, no faux-imperial gold — just the food, the tea, and the time to enjoy both. Twelve years on, the regulars still get the same table, and Sunday still fills the house.

  • Hand-folded dim sum, made through the day
  • Fourteen loose-leaf teas, blended in-house
  • Porcelain and bamboo — set like family
Why Steam & Porcelain

Made the Old Way

Four things we don't cut corners on.

Folded to Order

Every dumpling is pleated by hand and steamed when you order it — never sitting under a heat lamp.

Loose-Leaf Tea

Fourteen teas, sourced whole-leaf and blended in-house, poured as a full service — not a bag in a pot.

Porcelain & Bamboo

Proper steamers, proper cups. The table is set the way a tea house should be.

Weekend Cart

Saturday and Sunday mornings we run the cart — flag it down and point at what looks good.
