Snow, Wind And Hail Are Part Of The Design
A ground mount here has to carry a spring snow, stand up to Chinook winds and shrug off the occasional hailstorm. We engineer racking to local snow and wind loads, set the tilt steep enough that snow slides off rather than sitting on the glass, and use panels rated for hail impact. After a big storm, we'll come out and check.

What Farmers And Acreage Owners Say
The house well and the shop were the two biggest lines on our bill. Fenwold put forty panels on the corner we never farmed anyway, and the bill for both is close to nothing most of the summer.
We didn't want panels on a forty-year-old roof. A ground mount by the shop was easier to clean, easier to snow-clear and faces dead south, which the house never did.
They trenched to the barn without tearing up the arena, set the piers below frost line and came back after the first big snow to make sure everything shed properly.
Ground-Mount Questions
How much land does a ground mount need?
Less than most people expect. A typical home system fits in a strip roughly the size of a two-car driveway; farm systems scale from there. We also leave room around it for mowing and snow.
Is a ground mount more expensive than a roof system?
The racking, piers and trenching usually add cost. On a roof that's shaded, old or facing the wrong way, the extra production and no roof work often make the ground mount the better value. We'll price both if both are possible.
Can one array power the house, the shop and the well?
Often, depending on how your meters are set up and what your utility or co-op allows. We'll look at every meter on the property during the site visit and design around them.
Is there still a federal tax credit for solar?
Not for homeowners who buy their system — that credit ended for home systems installed after 2025. Farms and other businesses may still have federal and grant options, with deadlines; we'll point you to them and your tax advisor confirms what applies.
What about livestock?
We fence arrays where animals graze, keep wiring buried in conduit, and set the lowest panel edge high enough for mowing — and for sheep, if you'd like them to do the mowing.
Do you work on ground mounts someone else built?
Yes — racking repairs, inverter replacements, rodent-damaged wiring and systems that were never quite finished. We start with a full inspection.
