Wellness Spa in Asheville, NC
Sauna and cold plunge, herbal foot soaks, massage and facials in six quiet rooms on Haywood Road. Come for an hour, or take the whole day.

An Hour Here Should Feel Like a Day Away
Brightwater opened in 2019 in a converted hardware store on Haywood Road, ten minutes from downtown and a long way from it. There are six treatment rooms, a cedar sauna, a cold plunge, a porch with a view of the trees, and a kitchen that does one lunch a day.
Nothing here is rushed. Appointments are spaced so you never pass another guest in a robe, and every treatment ends with tea on the porch rather than a handshake at the desk.
- Quiet:six rooms, never full
- Heat:a cedar sauna and cold plunge
- Tea:on the porch after every visit

How a Full Day Here Goes
Six hours, four treatments, one lunch and a lot of sitting on the porch.
9:30 — the circuit
Cedar sauna, cold plunge, rest. Three rounds, with someone showing you the timing the first time.
11:00 — massage
Ninety minutes, Swedish or deep tissue, in a room with the blinds half down.
12:30 — lunch on the porch
One lunch, cooked that morning: soup, bread, a salad and something sweet. Tell us what you don't eat.
2:00 — facial, then the soak
A botanical facial, then a herbal foot soak while you decide whether to go home yet.

Heat, Cold, Rest, Repeat
What the sauna and cold plunge circuit is, in plain words.
Ten minutes of cedar heat
The sauna sits around 175°F. You stay until you'd rather not, usually ten minutes.
A minute in the plunge
The plunge is kept cold. The first time, thirty seconds counts; by the third round most people manage a minute.
Rest as long as the heat
A chair on the porch, water, nothing to do. The rest is the part people skip and shouldn't.
Three rounds
Heat, cold, rest, three times. An hour door to door.
Guided on your first visit
Someone walks you through the timing and the plunge the first time. After that it's yours.
Walk in on weekdays
No booking needed for the circuit Wednesday to Friday before noon. Weekends, book ahead.
Days That Ran Long
I came for a massage and ended up doing the full day. The circuit before the massage made a bigger difference than I expected, and lunch on the porch was the best hour I've had in months.
The cold plunge scared me for about four seconds. By the third round I was looking forward to it. I now do the circuit every other Saturday.
We drove over from Black Mountain for the half day. Three hours, no phones, and a foot soak I'm still thinking about. We've already booked December.

Blinds Half Down, Nothing on the Clock
Each treatment room has a window onto the trees, a table warmed before you lie on it and a jug of water you'll actually want. Appointments are spaced by twenty minutes, so the room is quiet before you walk in and quiet after you leave.
The porch is the real last room. Everyone ends up there.
- ✓Twenty minutes between every appointment
- ✓A window in every room
- ✓Tea and the porch after everything

Before You Come
Do I need to book the circuit?
Not on weekday mornings. Wednesday to Friday before noon you can walk in. Weekends and afternoons fill up, so book ahead.
What do I wear in the sauna and plunge?
A swimsuit. Robes, towels and slippers are provided, and the sauna and plunge are shared and mixed.
Is the cold plunge compulsory?
No. Plenty of guests do the sauna and the rest without the plunge, or use the cool shower instead. Do what feels right on the day.
What's for lunch on the full-day retreat?
One lunch, cooked that morning: a soup, bread from a bakery on Haywood Road, a salad and something sweet. Tell us about anything you don't eat when you book.
Can I bring a friend or a group?
Yes. Two people can do a retreat day together, and we take groups of up to six for the circuit on Sunday mornings. Ask when you book.
Where do I park?
There's a lot behind the building off Haywood Road with twelve spaces, and street parking on the side streets.
