About Timberline

Portland's Trees Are in Good Hands

Timberline started in 2007 with a belief that tree work deserves real expertise — not just a chainsaw and a ladder. Portland is a city of big, beautiful trees: towering Douglas firs, sprawling big-leaf maples, century-old oaks. They're worth protecting, and when they have to come down, they're worth taking down right.

That's why every job runs through an ISA-certified arborist who understands how trees grow, fail, and heal. We're fully insured and bonded, we rig and climb to professional safety standards, and we treat your property — your roof, your fence, your garden beds — like it's our own. Ten thousand trees later, greater Portland trusts us with the ones that matter most. We'd be glad to earn that trust with yours.

Portland Trusts Us With Its Trees

★★★★★
We had a massive fir leaning toward the house after the winter storms and I was honestly losing sleep over it. Timberline came out, gave me a fair written quote, and took it down in a single day — right between the house and the power lines like it was nothing. Watching their climber work was incredible. Cleaned up every scrap. Total professionals.

A huge maple limb came down across our driveway at 11pm during a windstorm, completely blocking us in. I called Timberline's emergency line not expecting much and a crew was out before sunrise clearing it. Calm, fast, and they made the whole tree safe while they were at it. I cannot recommend them enough for storm work.

I wanted our oaks pruned properly, not just hacked back like the last company did. Timberline's arborist actually walked the yard with me, explained what each tree needed and why, and the crew shaped them beautifully. They cleared deadwood off the roof and lifted the canopy so we get our afternoon light back. Real expertise.

Third time using Timberline now — removal, then stump grinding, and most recently a health check on a tree we were worried about. Same certified, safety-first crew every time, same fair pricing, same spotless cleanup. It's a relief to have one tree company I completely trust with the big old trees on our property.

Good to Know

Tree Service Questions, Answered

How much does tree removal cost?

It depends on the tree — its size, species, health, and especially how tricky the location is. A small backyard tree in the open is very different from a towering fir leaning over your roof and the power lines. That's exactly why our estimates are free and on-site: we come look at your specific tree and give you a clear, written quote with no surprises and no obligation to book.

Are you licensed, insured, and certified?

Yes — and it matters more than almost anything else in tree work. We're fully insured with $2M in liability coverage plus workers' comp, we're bonded, and our work is led by ISA-certified arborists. If an uninsured crew damages your home or gets hurt on your property, you can be on the hook. We're happy to provide proof of insurance any time you ask.

Do you handle emergency and storm damage?

We do, 24/7. When a tree or large limb comes down on your home, car, driveway, or power lines, time matters — so our emergency crews respond fast, often the same day or overnight. We'll clear the immediate danger, make the area safe, and handle the full cleanup. Just call our line and tell us what's happened.

Will you grind the stump and clean everything up?

Yes. Standard removal includes hauling away all the wood and debris and raking the area clean. Stump grinding is a quick add-on — we grind the stump below grade and remove the grindings so you're left with a level spot ready to replant, sod, or build over. We'll include it in your quote so you can decide.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Portland?

Sometimes — Portland has tree regulations that depend on the tree's size, type, and location, and certain trees are protected. The good news is you don't have to figure it out alone. As local certified arborists we know the city's rules well and can tell you during your estimate whether a permit is needed and help guide you through it.

Can you remove a tree that's close to my house or wires?

Absolutely — those are the jobs where certification and the right equipment matter most. Using careful rigging, bucket trucks, and cranes when needed, our climbers take trees down in controlled sections so nothing comes down where it shouldn't. Tight, high-stakes removals near structures and lines are exactly what we're trained and equipped for.
