Our Approach

We Find The Missing Step First

When a student is stuck in algebra, the problem is rarely algebra. It's usually a step from two or three years ago — fractions, negatives, what an equals sign really means — that never quite settled. Homework help on tonight's worksheet doesn't fix that.

So every student starts with a free 30-minute diagnostic. We work through a short set of problems together, see where the reasoning breaks down, and build a plan that fills those gaps while keeping up with what's happening in class.

  • ✓Free diagnostic before any sessions
  • ✓A written plan you can see and question
  • ✓Class topics covered alongside the gaps
Is It Time For A Tutor?

Signs Your Student Needs Math Help

Any one of these is worth a free diagnostic. Two or three, and it's usually a gap that's been building for a while.

Homework takes all evening

Twenty minutes of problems turns into two hours of erasing, frustration and tears.

Good at homework, bad on tests

They can follow the steps with notes open but freeze when it's just them and the problem.

"I'm just not a math person"

Confidence drops long before grades do — and it's the hardest thing to rebuild.

A grade that dropped suddenly

A new course often exposes an old gap, especially in the jump to algebra or precalculus.

Bored and coasting

Some students need a challenge, not a rescue — we tutor ahead for students who are ready.

A big test on the calendar

AP exams, SAT and ACT math, or a final that decides the semester.

Why Plano Families Choose Corvell

What Makes Our Tutoring Different

Math Specialists Only

We only tutor math, and every tutor has a math, engineering or teaching background — and passes our own subject test.

The Same Tutor Every Week

Your student won't re-explain themselves to someone new. One tutor learns how they think.

We Explain It Three Ways

A picture, a real-world example and the formal method — until one of them clicks.

You Always Know Where Things Stand

Session notes, a plan you can read and a check-in call every six weeks.

What Plano Families Say

★★★★★
My daughter had decided she was 'just bad at math' by seventh grade. Her Corvell tutor found she'd never really understood fractions, went back and fixed that, and algebra suddenly made sense. She finished the year with a B+ and actually raises her hand now.
Rachel T.Parent, 7th grade, West Plano
★★★★★
I was failing AP Calc in October. We met twice a week, worked through every unit I'd skimmed, and did practice exams in April. I scored a 4 on the exam and I understood why the answers were right, not just how to get them.
Daniel O.Student, AP Calculus AB, Legacy
★★★★★
The summary email after every session is the best part. I know exactly what they covered, what my son is still shaky on and what he should practice before next week.
Mei L.Parent, Algebra I, Willow Bend
★★★★★
Geometry proofs were driving our son to tears. His tutor drew everything out, gave him a step-by-step way to start each proof, and his grade went from a D to a B over one semester.
Carlos R.Parent, 9th grade, Deerfield
★★★★★
We do sessions online on busy weeks and in the studio the rest of the time. Same tutor, same plan — it's made it easy to stay consistent through basketball season.
Angela W.Parent, 6th grade, Frisco
★★★★★
My SAT math score went up 90 points. The tutor spotted that I was losing most of my points on word problems and spent our sessions on exactly that.

Good To Know

What Parents Ask

How much does math tutoring cost?

$75 for a single 60-minute session, $280 a month for the weekly plan (four sessions), or $540 for an eight-session exam prep pack. The diagnostic is free.

How often should my student come?

Once a week works for most students. We suggest twice a week for a few weeks when a grade has dropped sharply or a big test is close, then step back down.

Who are the tutors?

Math and engineering graduates and current or former math teachers. Every tutor passes our own subject test for the courses they teach and a background check.

Do you help with homework or teach ahead?

Both. Sessions usually start with whatever is due this week, then move to the gaps in the plan. Students who are ahead can work on the next course instead.

Is online tutoring as good as in person?

For most students in middle and high school, yes — same tutor, a shared whiteboard and the same plan. Younger students often do better in the studio.

What if it isn't a good fit?

Tell us and we'll match your student with a different tutor. Monthly plans can be paused or canceled before the next month starts.
