SQUARE'S NOTICE · RE-READ 5 NOVEMBER 2026

Is Weebly shutting down? The 67 countries, the dates and what to do

Square is closing Weebly in 67 countries, and not in the US, the UK, Canada or Australia. Here is what its notice says, word for word and dated, then two plain to-do lists: one for owners in those countries before logins end on 26 December 2026, and one for everyone else.

Square's own words, dated · Sources linked · No affiliate links

The short answer

Not everywhere. Square, which owns Weebly, is closing it in 67 countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia: owners there haven't been able to publish new pages since 29 June 2026, their sites were due to be unpublished on 27 September 2026, and they can sign in until 26 December 2026 to download their data and move their domain. The US, the UK, Canada and Australia aren't on Square's list. The newest word we found for everywhere else is older than the notice: Weebly's US help page, last edited in April 2025, says Weebly has "no plans to discontinue the Weebly site builder at this time".

Every date and country here is from Square's own notice on Weebly's help centre (Upcoming Changes to Weebly's Global Operations), re-read on 5 November 2026. The notice was created on 22 June 2026 and last edited on 13 August 2026.

So the question splits in two. If your business is in one of the 67 countries, the real deadline is 26 December 2026: after it you can't sign in to save anything. If it's in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia or anywhere else not on the list, nothing in the notice applies to you, and you can decide about Weebly on its merits.

Weebly's closure, one line each

  • Where: 67 countries on Square's list. Not the US, the UK, Canada or Australia.
  • Why, in Square's words: "due to changes in regulation and to simplify our global operations". The notice doesn't say which regulation.
  • The dates: no new pages from 29 June, sites due to be unpublished on 27 September, logins until 26 December 2026.
  • In the 67 countries, what to save: the site archive, your blog posts and your store's products, product photos, orders and contacts, before logins end on 26 December 2026. The archive holds the pages only.
  • In the 67 countries, your domain: if Weebly sold it to you, unlock it and copy its EPP code in your Weebly dashboard, then transfer it before logins end.
  • Everywhere else: nothing in Square's notice applies to you. There's no deadline to work to.

SQUARE'S NOTICE

When is Weebly shutting down? The four dates

Square's notice says it has "made the difficult decision to wind down Weebly services in 67 countries", due to changes in regulation and to simplify our global operations. These are the only dates it gives.

The dates in Square's Weebly notice, read 5 November 2026
DateWhat happensWhat the notice says

26 December 2026Last day to sign inAccount access lasts until this date "to enable you to move your site, domains, and data to another service". After it, "you will no longer have login access".

From Square's notice on Weebly's help centre, linked in the sources below. Some third-party pages give later dates, such as "January 2, 2027"; that date isn't in Square's notice, so work to 26 December 2026.

Which countries is Weebly closing in?

All 67, in the order Square's notice lists them: Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, South Korea, Iceland, Barbados, Colombia, Chile, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica, Vietnam, Serbia, Egypt, Ecuador, Peru, Cambodia, Jordan, Kenya, Bahamas, Uruguay, Oman, Morocco, Tanzania, Pakistan, Nigeria, Mauritius, Bahrain, Aruba, Zambia, Bangladesh, Georgia, Laos, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, French Polynesia, Azerbaijan, New Caledonia, Zimbabwe, Armenia, Paraguay, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Montenegro, Uzbekistan, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Russia, Belarus, Algeria, Andorra, Benin, Suriname, Palau, Gabon, Ghana, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Ethiopia, Tajikistan, Uganda, Guinea and Congo.

Not on the list: the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and every European Union country. Square's notice says nothing else about them; it simply doesn't name them.

The UAE's Khaleej Times reported the same dates on 5 July 2026, under the headline "Weebly websites to shut down for UAE, Saudi Arabia, 65 more countries from September" (Khaleej Times). Square's own notice is the source to work from, because it's the one Square keeps up to date.

If your business is in one of the 67 countries

If Square did what its notice says, your site has been offline since 27 September 2026: sites in these countries "will be unpublished on" that date. Your account isn't gone yet. Square says "you will still have access to your Weebly account until" 26 December 2026, so you can sign in and take everything with you, and after that "you will no longer have login access".

What matters most is that Weebly's downloads don't all come in one file. The site archive is a zip of your pages, and Weebly's own help says "Blog and store pages aren't included in the export as they rely directly on our database" (Weebly's help). Your posts, your products, your orders and your email contacts each come out a different way, each with its own Weebly help page, so work through the six steps below one at a time and tick them off.

BEFORE 26 DECEMBER

Six things to get out of Weebly before 26 December

Each one is a separate download or a separate step. Do them in this order, and keep everything in one folder on your computer.

01

Download your account data

Square's notice: Account Settings, then My Data, then Download My Data. Do this first. Once it's downloaded you can ask Weebly to erase your data, so only ask after you've checked the files open.

02

Archive each site

In the site editor: Settings, then General, then the Archive section. Enter your email, choose Email Archive, and Weebly emails you a link to a zip. It holds your pages; the contact form and slideshows may not work outside Weebly.

03

Copy your blog posts

The archive leaves the blog out. Open each post in the Weebly editor while you can still sign in, copy its words into a document and save its photos.

04

Export the store

Products: Items, then Site Items, the "…" menu and Export, for a spreadsheet. It lists each product's main photo as a link to Weebly, not the file, and extra photos aren't in it at all, so save the photos too. Orders: the Orders page, then Export Orders, as a spreadsheet or for QuickBooks.

05

Export your contacts

Your email marketing list: the Marketing dashboard, then Contacts, then Mailing Lists, then All Contacts, and the export button.

06

Move your domain

Unlock the domain in your Weebly dashboard, copy its EPP code and start the transfer at the new registrar. The details, and the two 60-day locks to avoid, are below.

How to transfer your domain from Weebly

If you bought your domain through Weebly, it moves to a new registrar with an authorization code, often called the EPP code. Square's notice gives the steps (Square's notice):

  1. In your Weebly dashboard, go to Websites, then Domains, then Manage, then Manage Domain on the domain you're moving.
  2. Turn off the Registrar Lock toggle. That shows the EPP authorization code; copy all of it.
  3. Start the transfer at the new registrar, which will ask for that code and take it from there.

Three things in the notice can catch you out:

  • Don't change your contact details first. Changing the domain's registrant email, phone number or name triggers a 60-day lock under ICANN policy, during which the domain can't be transferred. Square says to wait until after the transfer.
  • A domain under 60 days old can't move. ICANN doesn't allow a transfer within 60 days of registration.
  • Privacy protection switches off. Turning off the registrar lock also turns off Whois privacy if you had it, so set it up again at the new registrar.

Country-specific domains, the kind that end in a country's code (Square's examples are co.uk and .de), transfer differently: if you bought one through Weebly, Square asks you to contact Weebly's support team, who will help. If you have a Google Workspace account through Weebly, contact Weebly's support too; Square says it can help move it directly to Google. A domain you bought somewhere else was never Weebly's to hold, and you just point it at your new site.

Where to rebuild if you're in one of the 67 countries

We wouldn't point you to Square Online there. Weebly's US help page suggests Square Online, Square's own website builder, for new sites. But Square's help centre says card payments with Square are "currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, France and Spain", and "We currently don't support payment card processing outside of these countries" (Square's help). None of the 67 countries is among them, and we found no Square page offering Square Online in any of them.

Tools that copy a site from its address need it to be online. Several builders can rebuild a site by reading its public web address. Once Square has unpublished your site, there's nothing at that address for them to read. Plan to rebuild from what you downloaded: the archive's pages, your copied posts and your store files.

If you've already lost access. If your login has ended and you saved nothing, the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine may hold copies of some of your public pages from before 27 September. Search it for your old address; what it has, if anything, is the text and images it happened to capture.

For choosing the next builder, we scored eight on what Weebly owners need, booking, a store and what each one lets you take with you: the best Weebly alternatives, scored.

Is Weebly shutting down in the US, the UK, Canada or Australia?

Not according to anything Square has published. None of the four is on the notice's list of 67 countries, and the notice doesn't mention any other country.

The closest thing to a statement for owners elsewhere is Weebly's US help page, whose content was last edited on 29 April 2025, more than a year before the notice. It says: "We have no plans to discontinue the Weebly site builder at this time. However, we encourage new sites to be built with Square Online" (Weebly's help). We found no newer first-party word for these countries on 5 November 2026, and we won't guess at one.

If you're thinking of Square Online because of that line, know that it means a new site, not a move. A Square Community Moderator, Square's own staff, wrote on 18 November 2024: "it's not possible to migrate the Weebly editor over to Square Online. You'll need to create an entirely new site" (Square's community).

If you're outside the 67 countries: stay or go?

Staying is a reasonable choice. Your site keeps working, nothing in Square's notice applies to it, and a rebuild costs you time. Two things are worth doing either way, because they cost nothing:

  • Keep a copy. Take the site archive and the store and contact exports above, now, while nothing is urgent. They're the same steps, without a deadline.
  • Know where your domain lives. If it was bought through Weebly, find it on the Domains page of your dashboard and note its renewal date. If it was bought elsewhere, you already hold it.

If you'd rather move, the easiest time is while your site is still live. Tools that rebuild a site from its address can read your pages and posts as your customers see them, including the blog the archive leaves out, and you can switch the domain over only once the new site works. That's the opposite of the position owners in the 67 countries are in now.

Is Weebly shutting down: common questions

Is Weebly shutting down?

(From Square's notice on Weebly's help centre, read 5 November 2026.)

Is Weebly shutting down in the US?

Not according to Square's notice: the US isn't one of the 67 countries on its list, and neither are the UK, Canada or Australia. Weebly's US help page, last edited in April 2025, says Square has "no plans to discontinue the Weebly site builder at this time" and encourages new sites to be built with Square Online.

When does Weebly shut down?

In the 67 countries on Square's list: publishing new pages stopped on 29 June 2026, Square said it would wind the service down by 20 September 2026, sites were due to be unpublished on 27 September 2026, and account logins work until 26 December 2026. Square gives no shutdown date anywhere else.

Why is Weebly closing in those countries?

Square's notice says it is "due to changes in regulation and to simplify our global operations". It doesn't name the regulation or the countries' laws involved.

What happens to my Weebly site after 26 December 2026?

In the 67 countries, Square's notice says that after 26 December 2026 "you will no longer have login access to your Weebly account". The site itself was due to be unpublished on 27 September. The notice doesn't say what happens to the data after that, so download everything before the date. Outside the 67 countries, nothing in the notice changes on that date.

How do I download my Weebly site?

Two ways. For the whole account, Square's notice says Account Settings, then My Data, then Download My Data. For one site's zip, Weebly's help says to open the site editor and go to Settings, then General, then the Archive section, then choose Email Archive. The zip doesn't include blog or store pages, so copy your posts from the editor and export products, orders and contacts separately.

Can I move my Weebly site to Square Online?

Not as a move. A Square Community Moderator wrote in November 2024 that it's "not possible to migrate the Weebly editor over to Square Online" and that you'll need to create an entirely new site. Square Online also runs on Square, whose card payments its help centre lists in eight countries (the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, the UK, Ireland, France and Spain), none of them on the closing list.

How do I transfer my domain from Weebly?

In your Weebly dashboard: Websites, then Domains, then Manage, then Manage Domain, turn off the Registrar Lock and copy the EPP code, then start the transfer at the new registrar. Two 60-day locks apply under ICANN rules: a domain can't move within 60 days of registration, and changing its contact details starts a new 60-day lock, so don't change them first. For country-specific domains, contact Weebly's support. In the 67 countries, finish before 26 December 2026.

Where these facts come from

Every date and country is from Square's notice on Weebly's help centre, re-read on 5 November 2026; the steps for downloading, exporting and moving a domain are from Weebly's own help pages, read the same day. Square's list of card-payment countries is from Square's help centre. Where a newspaper or another company is quoted, it's as corroboration only. If Square edits its notice, its version wins: check it before you act.

If you rebuild on Zarla

How you rebuild depends on whether your Weebly site is still online.

  • If it's still live (the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and anywhere else not on Square's list): paste its address and Zarla reads the live site and rebuilds your pages, words and photos in a new design, with booking, quotes and invoices on the website plan. Hostinger's AI Website Cloner also rebuilds a site from its address, as "a close starting point, not a pixel-perfect duplicate" (Hostinger).
  • If Square has unpublished it (the 67 countries): Zarla's import reads a live site, so it has nothing to read, and it doesn't open Weebly's zip file. Describe your business in one line instead, and Zarla builds the pages; then put your saved words and photos back in, page by page, in the editor.

Either way it's free to build and preview; you pay when you publish, on Premium. Keep your domain where it is until the new site is ready, then point it across. Bring your live Weebly site across, or read Weebly vs Zarla, head to head first.
